It offers a fantastic range of features that greatly enhance the overall experience.
However, I was a bit disappointed to find that the background manager is exclusive to Patreon subscribers.
While I completely understand the need for developers to monetize their work, I initially installed CAI Tools with the expectation that I would have access to background customization, as it was prominently showcased in the screenshots without any indication that a Patreon subscription would be necessary.
On a positive note, I appreciate the 7-day free trial that allows users to explore the features. However, I do wish the background manager was available for free, while keeping the other features locked for Patreon supporters; but I can understand why it was done, as the other locked settings don't really motivate a subscription, in my opinion.
That said, I love all of the free features that could be used, like the duplicate chat feature and the bigger profile pictures for better immersion, and being able to hide the 'edited' note for edited messages.
Despite Character.ai recently introducing their own official chat duplication feature. This addon has truly been a lifesaver and continues to be an invaluable tool for me; especially since I have heard that C.ai has had some issues with fully duplicating the chat currently, and still does not have adjustable size profile pictures.
Despite C.ai adding some similar features, this addon remains incredibly useful for free users, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who uses the site; even if it isn't completely perfect, nor free.
I do have one question for the developer, however: I remember there was a "Summarize Chat" feature that required an OpenAI/ChatGPT account that could be created for absolutely free, and it was one of my favorite aspects of the addon to summarize my long roleplays, and customising the template to suit my own preference of summarization to help the bot keep up with the plot. However, it seems to have been removed in a latest update for seemingly no reason, even though the description still mentions having the feature included. Could you please clarify why it was removed, or if it will ever make a return; even if it becomes a Premium-only feature?Developer response
posted 3 months agoChatGPT is too problematic and I can't make it work properly for many people. I haven't deleted the code but it's shameful for me for it to be there at the moment. I totally forgot to remove it from the description. ChatGPT permission is still there for another upcoming feature (will be premium but an equivalent or better feature will come free alongside it).
Summarize feature may return but no promises. Maybe we could delete the code for auto import into the chat and let users utilize it for memory manager.
Thank you for understanding the monetization. Thanks to that I can keep working on this extension instead of scrolling through job listings. There is no shame in making a living :) - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18512180, 5 months ago
