Reviews for OneTab

by Wavemaker, 5 years agoThis is one of my all time favourite addons, so it was with horror and dismay, after it having worked without a hitch since the day I installed it, I awoke one day to a totally blank OneTab page staring back at me with terse and cold indifference. The "OMFG, no, no, no, no, NO, this can't be happening!!" factor was real!!
But! Having regularly taken advantage of the backup option, I was somewhat hopeful I could fix things and lose only a couple of days worth of new tabs. Unfortunately though, no amount of disabling/re-enabling or uninstalling/re-installing could bring back the last tabbed days of my online life. Then, having nothing to lose, I decided to revert to an older version as suggested by a user further down the comment line:

Oh blessed be!! It's back! It's all back! I could hardly believe it! Whew! Cheers of joy, high fiving myself (and the cat) and a couple of woop woops broke the tense and mournful atmosphere and I was back in business, baby! :) (Shout out to Keegan Witt for the link to the old version. Thank you, my friend! Thank you!)
So... Despite the heart attack-inducing shock of potentially having lost all that was dear to me (tab-wise anyway) I am giving this addon 4 stars. When it works, it works like a dream, so I won't punish the team who made this otherwise brilliant addon by giving a lower score, because do you know what? Sometimes, shit happens. Yup, sometimes it just happens, even to the best of us. The fatal errors in the new version are most certainly not done intentionally and I feel a great deal of compassion and empathy for the poor developer/s who are maybe having a minor heart attack of their own, sleepless nights and they're probably (hopefully) working feverishly in a panicked sweat to fix whatever went wrong and get things back on track. I just can't bring myself to jump on any "cancel culture" bandwagon and diss or abandon this addon after all it has done for me, and besides, I am hopeful there'll be fix soon.
So, to keep this review short, (Yikes! Too late!) I still request a donate button somewhere on the OneTab page and I will be thankful and grateful and happy for having this FREE addon available to me. When it works, it's a little piece of heaven.
So as I said, 4 stars it is, and now I'll be off. I have some more tab-hoarding to do....
Rant over.
Edit (a couple of days later): I'm upgrading my rating to five stars. Turns out all the blame for the temporary malfunctioning of the addon lies with Mozilla and not the OneTab addon. Installed the latest fix and everything's back in perfect working order.

posted 5 years agoHi, sorry about this. We've been working with Mozilla all morning to resolve this. Mozilla have confirmed it was due to a bug in Firefox (related to extension permissions downgrades).
To fix OneTab, just go to “about:addons” in your Firefox address bar, click the ‘cog’ icon in the top right, and click ‘Check for updates’. This will upgrade you to OneTab v1.39, which fixes the issue.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19515493, 7 days ago10/10/25 Mozilla can't handle the heat from all the incompetent add on "developers" so they are now trying to censor users by requiring and email address to login. One tab is a classic example of a Mozilla "recommended" add-on that is just no damn good.
Can't deal with long tab lists and
reduces your system to a crawl by eating up memory to produce the list. One example of many mozilla add-ons that need to be sold to someone who actually knows what they are doing. Slow to load very slow to import export which has to be done manually. Another junk Mozilla "Recommended" add-on
Now let's see if Mozilla deletes this review or my account.
Mozilla going the way of GMAIL. God help us. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 19509502, 11 days agoWorked for bringing over a thousand tabs over from Chrome because google insists on trying to kill adblock.
My only real complaint is the layout is infinitely better on Chrome than Firefox, the Firefox layout is just a basic list broken down by window while Chromes is an actual usable program you can organize things in, it's basically the same layout as the bookmark manager in Firefox. The Firefox version is also missing over half the options page from the Chrome version.
In my opinion, it's useful as a way to move tabs over from Chrome when swapping browsers but not as an actual tool for use with Firefox, unless you're swapping to Firefox permanently don't bother with it and just get the Chrome version. Particularly since it hasn't been updated in over two years at this point and the Chrome version was just updated less than a month ago.Developer response
posted 10 days agoHi, the Chrome version will be coming to Firefox soon. The Chrome version is still in beta and mostly only released to new (and not existing) users. There are some changes/improvements we need to finish making before it is made available to all Chrome and Firefox users. - Rated 5 out of 5by witali2011, 20 days ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Yngve, a month agoThe extension consumes all RAM and makes PC unusable. With 100 tabs on the list (closed) and 2 open tabs it eats all 8GB and all disk swap. Giving the fact the goal of extension is to save RAM, this makes no-sense.

posted 11 days agoHi, this definitely shouldn't happen. OneTab shouldn't take more than about 100MB. If you contact us on our web site, we can see if we can investigate further. No one has ever reported anything like this before with so few tabs stored. The only thing I can think of is if you are storing multi-gigabyte data: URLs in your page. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18116532, a month agoHave been a onetab user for years at this point, and will be for years to come! :D

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19291583, 2 months agoIt is restoring tabs, one by one, so when I had 5600 tabs, it was trying to restore (open) a 5600 tabs one by one.
Browser of course crashed, so I was not able to open my tabs.
It is not possible to make "auto groups" based on domain or regular expression.Developer response
posted 2 months agoA new version is coming in the next few weeks that will allow you to open tabs in an unloaded state. This should make it possible to restore lots of tabs without overloading Firefox - Rated 5 out of 5by scenetrails, 2 months ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by bebroid, 2 months agoSome people here are idiotic (the ones who store 10 years long tabs history and never backup it). This extension is holy grail. IT WORKS GOOD. AND HAS NO ADS. FOR YEARS. Princesses who can't backup your sh#t once in a month are meant to suffer in this society. Thx mr developer. The only suggestion is to add star icon for bookmark saving in the tabs list

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14094712, 2 months agoI exported my tabs from the Brave extension to come to Firefox (well, Zen), and it didn't export the names of my groups. This isn't a big deal for me, except sometimes I've put videos in their with the tab name as the timestamp, so of course that's gone. It's not like,,, horribly confusing or whatever, just extremely limited I guess. And I also lose the add date of the info.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18340730, 2 months agoDANGER. The app slows down the system a lot. And if you use groups for tabs, it deletes them!
ОПАСНО. Приложение сильно тормозит систему. А если вы используете группы для вкладок, то она их удаляет! - Rated 5 out of 5by Arjun, 3 months ago
