Optional OpenAI API Key: If entered by the user, stored securely in localStorage for personalized AI queries.
IP Addresses (for Rate Limiting Only): Temporarily stored to enforce fair usage limits and prevent abuse.


2.1 How IP Addresses Are Used

IP addresses are only used to rate-limit API requests and prevent abuse of the service.
IP addresses are not linked to any user account or personally identifiable data.
IP addresses are stored temporarily in a Redis database and automatically deleted after 24 hours.


Aegis does not track, log, or store IP addresses for analytics, advertising, or any other purpose.
3. Legal Basis for Processing IP Addresses (GDPR Compliance)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Aegis processes IP addresses under the legitimate interest legal basis (Article 6(1)(f)), specifically for:

Preventing abuse and ensuring fair usage of the extension.

1. Third-Party Services

Aegis relies on the following services to function:

Aegis API (https://aegis.anemos.app): Used to fetch video ratings and summaries based on YouTube video IDs.
OpenAI (optional): For each query or video ID, Aegis makes API calls to OpenAI's services via the Aegis API to generate video insights. If a user provides their own OpenAI API key, the Aegis server processes the request using the provided key instead of Aegis' default API key.


Neither of these services collect personally identifiable information through Aegis.
7. User Rights and Control

Opt-Out and Data Removal: Users can delete all stored preferences and API keys at any time through the extension settings.
Minimal Data Retention: IP addresses used for rate-limiting are stored only temporarily and automatically deleted after 24 hours.
Transparency: Aegis is a proprietary project. While efforts are made to ensure clarity on how data is processed, the source code is not publicly available.
