AudD® Music Recognition by AudD, LLC

Rated 3 out of 5
by Firefox user 12744283, 2 years agoIn my previous review, I gave this extension a 1-star rating due to a bug that required a subscription to perform any actions. However, I believe the issue has since been fixed, so I decided to give this extension another try.
According to the addon description, it claims to "Identify any music from any website in your browser." One might assume that this means you can freely identify any song on any page, considering the extension is open-source and the developer has a donation link on the page. Unfortunately, that assumption is incorrect. It does work for free on YouTube and Twitch (and possibly on some other websites), but on any other site, an active subscription to the service is required. Regrettably, the developer failed to disclose this information in the description.
Regarding YouTube song recognition, I attempted to identify songs on lofi girl music streams (both lofi and synthwave radios), but it failed most of the time. This was surprising, given that it was practically the same use case as shown in the demo video.
For standalone songs, the recognition works fairly well. However, when there is someone speaking over the song, such as in let's play videos or on Twtich streams, its reliability significantly decreases, even for popular music. Based on my limited testing, it was able to identify only 2 out of 10 songs in different attempts. That's quite disappointing.

Developer response
posted 2 years agoHi, thanks a lot for the update!
- There are 10 websites where the extension is not supposed to work without an API token, to prevent people (usually, employees of these websites' owners) from using the extension for work. The list:
"watzatsong", "coub", "gyrostream.com", "cms.onerpm.com", "rumedia.io", "decabroda.studio", "adsintegrity.net", "file:///", "v16-tcs.tiktokcdn.com", "rmxindia.in", "vk.com".
The extension should work on any website that doesn't have any of these strings in the URL.
Can you please send us a link where the extension refused to identify the song? This is likely a bug (perhaps a false positive match with the strings above?). Our email is firefox@audd.io.
- Regarding YouTube streams, some of them broadcast songs that are "not copyrighted"/were not released on digital platforms, and unfortunately we don't have them in our DB.
- 2 out of 10 songs with people talking over is quite a low number; can you try increasing the recording length in the settings to 12 seconds and see if that improves?
We really appreciate you giving the extension another try and making the update!
