by Buster Blue, 6 years agoGood for saving resources without needing to close tabs completely. However There seems to be a bug with the way the "Discard All Other Tabs" function works.
It appears to respect the whitelist and blacklist features of the addon like auto-discarding does. I suspect that this isn't the intended behavior, because discarding tabs using "Discard Tab" ignores the lists. This is what I expected with "Discard All Other tabs" because it's being done manually just like "Discard Tab" is. Because it doesn't ignore them, I initially thought that this function just didn't work at all.
If it is the intended behavior for "Discard Tab" to ignore the lists but "Discard All Other Tabs" to respect them, it should be more clear about that. I'd also like the option for it to ignore the lists just like "Discard Tab" does, since I feel like this makes more sense, and is more useful.
The only other problem I have is that putting a discarded tab into focus automatically reloads the tab. This is pretty inconvenient and I'd much rather have the tab stay discarded until I manually reload it, or something like that.

- Rated 5 out of 5by thajose, a month agoBeen a Firefox user since it was an alpha release. I've never written a review for any extension until now. This extension made Firefox on Ubuntu usable for me again. I typically have several tabs opened at all time. After 12 or so, Firefox would become nearly unusable, particularly if any videos began playing in those tabs. Auto Tab Discard has made it to where I can have several dozen tabs open and everything runs fine. To the developer, thank you so much for this.
One thing I will point out is that the name is a bit misleading - No tabs appear to be discarded, thrown away, or deleted. They are just put in a suspended state and removed from active memory. At one time, I thought Firefox had a feature like this built in however, if that still exists, it no longer works very well. Auto Tab Discard is an absolute must for me now. - Rated 5 out of 5by Michael Rabinovsky, a month agoI think the description says it all, but I'll add that the benefits of this addon are immense, and it is amazing to me that it isn't built into the browser. This addon turned my old laptop from unusable to nice to browse on. In addition, as a heavy tabber with hundreds of tabs open, it allows me to run more memory-intensive software on my desktop without closing my browser.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17564609, a month agoIt appears that the AI-powered tab grouping of Firefox keeps this extension from being effective.
You need to turn off 'Use AI to suggest tabs and a name for tab groups' in Settings > General.
The extension discards tabs more than Tab Unloading, a function of Firefox and is more flexible.
I still needs it. - Rated 5 out of 5by whatever, a month ago

Useful for my potatoe, but the options do not take effect for me for some reason which would be super helpful otherwise. Thank you. Shall revise the review when I can get that working. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17628517, 2 months agoGood, but firefox now has built-in tab discard/unload feature, so in fact you don't need this anymore.

The settings are a bit complicated.
I could have the option to have more than one set of criteria, before closing tabs. Eg. closing tabs after 20 min, when having more than 10 open, but also closing tabs after 10 min, when having more than 25 open. - Rated 5 out of 5by Artem, 2 months ago
