- Rated 5 out of 5by simper66, 3 months agoThanks, thanks and thank, i was going to do it by myself because the rest of them are over complicated or under functional. I would have ended doing it more or less the same.
I miss a couple of things.
1/ A button or something to discard all new tabs opened since X time ago until now.
2/The opposite, something to start discarding all new tabs opened since right now until X time in the future, or until idle user detected or explicitly deactivated or similar.
3/ The auto trash is great but i strongly miss an option to send the tabs to somewhere before trashing them. A bookmark folder or wherever.
4/ Something to see what is happening under the hoods. Nothing special. Basically how much tabs are in the deactivation queue to see the speed of the thing.
5/ A panic mode. I mean, deactivating or even blocking you opening new tabs when certain thresholds are meet. This feature would be a killer. Cause you know, there is a no return point when the system freeze and it is too late to do anything.
Well, thanks again.
EDIT:
I guess another feature, a bit strange, but would be a killer, at least for me.
Imagine you are in duckduckgo searching for some python stuff and you open 30 related tabs. I would like to open all of them deactivated but the very first 5, and after reading and closing one of these opened ones, begin loading automatically one of the deactivated ones so i don't have to wait for it when reached.
A kind of "OPEN DEACTIVATED, BUT (X), AND TRY KEEP ACTIVE (Y) LEFT AND/OR RIGHT
Perhaps with the option of autoactivate a tab in the same domain? - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18596858, 3 months ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Scoox, 5 months agoThis is very good. I have loads of tabs open simultaneously and was having problems with high memory usage. This plugin instantly took care of the problem. The configuration can seem a bit daunting at first but it's worth taking the time to go through and understand every setting to get the the most out of this add-in.
I notice certain "special tabs" are not being discarded, for example, Sidebery folder tabs, Firefox Preferences pages, and add-on options pages. Regarding Sidebery folder tabs, perhaps they are being seen as active all the time because Sidebery is active and those tabs are part of it? This doesn't bother me, but I thought I'd mention it in case it's not intentional.
My only tiny criticism would be the lack of documentation, since some settings are somewhat cryptic especially if you are not a techie. Eventually I managed to figure out almost every setting through trial and error.
I'd like to sugges a floating Save Options button that's always visible, thereby eliminating the need to scroll down to the bottom each time settings need saving. This would make experimentation less time-consuming.
In short: A fantastic add-on. Big thank you to the author/authors! - Rated 5 out of 5by skypie, 5 months ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Iqbal Faaizi, 5 months agoWhy not rename it to something that reflects its feature better? I've known about this extension for a long time but never installed it because I initially thought it was meant to close tabs.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18613498, 5 months agoThis extension is nothing short of revolutionary for heavy browser users like me. As someone who regularly juggles dozens, sometimes hundreds, of tabs across multiple Firefox windows, I've experienced firsthand the strain this puts on system resources. With only 16GB of RAM on my Mac, I often found myself teetering on the edge of 80-90% memory usage, a situation that even dedicated memory cleaning apps struggled to alleviate for more than a few seconds
Unbelievable Performance
Auto Tab Discard is on a whole different level than other tab management solutions I've tried.
• Dramatic Memory Reduction: With around 50 tabs open, the extension's impact was immediately noticeable. However, the true test came when I pushed it to the limit .
• Handling Hundreds of Tabs: Upon opening hundreds of tabs across several Firefox windows, my system's memory usage skyrocketed to 90%. Activating Auto Tab Discard resulted in an astonishing drop to 53% memory usage - a level that remained stable!! What?! ?
• Consistent Performance: Even after adding another 80 tabs in a new window and starting a YouTube video, the extension managed to keep memory usage hovering around 50%.
In my opinion, if you are a power user and struggle with browser & memory issues from having tons of tabs open, this extension’s ability to dramatically reduce memory consumption while maintaining a smooth browsing experience will shock you. At least, it has shocked me. It has fundamentally changed how I manage my browser workflow, allowing me to keep numerous tabs open without sacrificing system performance. Frankly, I’m gobsmacked. - Rated 5 out of 5by Seän "Frostbyte" Shepherd, 5 months ago
