Backup for Character.AI saves your own Character.AI chats and characters to files on your computer. Short version: nothing leaves your browser.

WHAT IT ACCESSES
When you open a chat on character.ai, the extension looks up that character's name and picture to show them in its panel. When you click "Back up this character", it reads, using the session you're already signed in with: your chats with that character (including swipes), the character's details (name, tagline, greetings, and the definition when Character.AI makes it available to you), your personas, and, when you download the character card, the character's profile picture from Character.AI's image server.

WHAT HAPPENS TO IT
The extension turns that data into files (.json, .txt, or a .png character card) and your browser downloads them to your computer. That's all.
- We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any of your data. We run no servers for this extension.
- The extension never reads or stores your password, cookies or access tokens.
- There are no analytics, tracking, ads or third-party scripts.
- Only the character's profile picture is saved. Images inside chats are not.

PERMISSIONS
The extension runs only on https://character.ai/* and requests no other browser permissions.
