About this extension
Bluesky's normal image-upload processing can replace transparent areas of PNG images with an opaque background. Bluesky Transparent PNG Poster preserves transparency by publishing PNGs through Bluesky's AT Protocol.
The extension adds a PNG button to Bluesky's New post composer, letting you prepare and publish transparent PNG images without leaving the Bluesky website.
Sign in to Bluesky, open its New post composer, and select the PNG button. You can also start a new post from the Firefox extension toolbar button.
The extension requires a Bluesky app password to authenticate its separate connection to Bluesky's API.
Designed with keyboard and screen-reader accessibility in mind, including testing with Firefox for Windows and NVDA.
Images are processed locally before upload. The extension communicates directly with Bluesky, without an intermediary publishing service, analytics, or tracking.
The extension is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
Requires Firefox desktop 150 or later and a Bluesky account.
Version 1.0 supports standalone posts only—not replies, quote posts, threads, or posts with restricted interaction settings. Unpublished drafts are not guaranteed to survive a page reload or tab closure.
The interface is available in English.
