About this extension
Overview

ProvSeal Verify.

We changed the product name to establish a distinct, independent identity and to clearly distinguish our software from the C2PA™ Technical Specification it implements.

This is only a change of name and visual identity. The extension’s core functionality, local-first approach, and privacy commitments remain unchanged. Existing users do not need to take any action.

ProvSeal Verify helps you inspect, understand, and test Content Credentials directly in Chrome—without uploading your files.

Verify provenance. Sign with confidence.

Why use ProvSeal Verify?

➤ Verify local files privately

Inspect supported images, documents, and videos to detect Content Credentials. Quickly determine whether credentials are present, cryptographically valid, trusted, untrusted, invalid, or missing.

➤ Scan media on web pages

Analyze supported visible media in your active browser tab and view clear verification badges.

Scanning is manual by default, with an optional automatic scanning mode available.

➤ Test signing workflows locally

Create a local test identity and certificate for learning, demonstrations, development, and internal validation.

You can also import supported signing material, including .p12 and .pfx files, to test signing with your own identity.

➤ Understand provenance and trust

Access detailed reports containing:

✔ Manifest information
✔ C2PA actions and assertions
✔ Certificate details
✔ Trust-chain status
✔ Validation warnings and errors
✔ Exportable JSON data

➤ Local-first by design

Verification and test signing are performed locally inside your browser.

Your files, media, private keys, certificates, and signing identities are not uploaded to a remote ProvSeal server.

➤ No tracking or advertising

ProvSeal Verify contains no advertising and does not sell your data or use your media for profiling.

Your work stays yours.

Key features

✔ Local verification of Content Credentials
✔ Detailed inspection of manifests and assertions
✔ Cryptographic integrity validation
✔ Certificate and trust-chain analysis
✔ Media scanning directly on web pages
✔ Local test signing
✔ Support for imported .p12 and .pfx signing material
✔ Detailed JSON report export

Important limitations

ProvSeal Verify does not determine whether content is true or false.

The extension verifies cryptographic provenance and integrity signals. These signals can help you understand a file’s origin and modification history, but they do not independently establish whether its content is truthful.

✔ Unsigned content is not automatically fake.
✔ Signed content is not automatically truthful.
✔ A valid test signature is not equivalent to a publicly trusted production signature.
✔ A valid credential confirms integrity and provenance information—not the accuracy of every claim depicted by the content.

About test certificates

Locally generated test certificates are intended for learning, demonstrations, development, and internal validation only.

They are not publicly trusted production certificates. Public trust depends on an appropriate certificate chain and the applicable trust policies of the Content Credentials ecosystem.

Privacy and security

ProvSeal Verify is built around a local-first approach.

Your local files and signing material remain inside your browser during supported verification and signing workflows.

ProvSeal does not collect, store, sell, or share your media.

Independent implementation

ProvSeal Verify is an independently developed implementation of the C2PA™ Technical Specification for inspecting and verifying Content Credentials and testing digital-asset signing workflows.

ProvSeal is an independent third-party product. It is not produced, operated, sponsored, approved, or endorsed by the C2PA project or Joint Development Foundation Projects.

C2PA™ is a trademark of Joint Development Foundation Projects, LLC.

Conformance status

Application in progress. ProvSeal Verify is currently undergoing the C2PA Conformance Program application process as a Validator Product.

Until that process is successfully completed, ProvSeal Verify is not represented as a C2PA Conforming Product.
