by Firefox user 14792473, 4 years agoseems very nice, thank you !
but,
- I can't follow instructions because extension is translated (in French)and I can't choose english so: how do I disable translation (to have it in English) ?
- Instructions are not really clear: what are letters displayed on the icon ? When I go on a test fingerprinting page, it changes from green icon to red, show some numbers (of fingerprinting attemps I guess) and then there is a letter like "C" or "D": what does it mean ? Didn't found anything about that
- on the provided test page "Canvas test", it is said that hash are expected to be the same when refreshed. What does it mean if they change (when I click "refresh" button hash change) ?
-On the configuration page I have a text highlighted in red saying something in French (thus why is it translated by default if I don't want ?): "Vous avez activé la protection contre le pistage de Fingerprinting (empreinte digitale – composants de l’ordinateur)." = "You have activated protection against fingerprinting (fingerprint-computer component): what does it mean ? is it bad or good and if bad what can I do ?

posted 4 years agoThe extension is translated in several languages (https://crowdin.com/project/canvasblocker) and the main language is English. As the used language is controlled by Firefox you have to check your browser settings to know why it's displayed in French.
The letters on the icon indicate which APIs where protected by the extension (C = canvas, D = DOMRect, N = naivgator, W = window, A = audio). If you hover over the icon with your mouse you should get a tooltip with further information. But you get the detailed information when you click on the fingerprint icon in the url bar.
If the hashes do not change it can mean several things - most likely something in your settings. Please open an issue at https://github.com/kkapsner/CanvasBlocker/issues with all your questions and your settings. This review system is not great for extensive communication.
The red message indicates that you have privacy.resistFingerprinting enabled which changes the behaviour of CB slightly (it most likely explains that the hashes do not change). It's not bad - just something to be aware of. Here is the English translation of that message: You have privacy.resistFingerprinting enabled. This slightly changes the behaviour of CanvasBlocker. See further information {link:here:https://github.com/kkapsner/CanvasBlocker/issues/158} and {link:here:https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js/issues/767}.

- Rated 1 out of 5by CHANO, 8 days agoI became suspicious when there is no tally count, so I went to coveryourtracks.eff. ran the fingerprinting scan and found the app was doing absolutely nothing at all but sitting in my browser collecting info.I will be removing it.And running a system malware scan.

- Rated 1 out of 5by NameOfDisplay, a month agoI like the concept of the addon but this is basically useless until the developer explains literally anywhere how to add sites to the whitelist and the settings page doesn't absolutely suck.
Only really useful if you are the developer and understand all of the obtuse menu options. - Rated 4 out of 5by Mikaela, a month ago

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 19062474, a month agoNo instructions on how to use it. Not intuitive to use. I have not a clue if it is doing anything because of this. I will leave it on incase it is working. It would be better as an app to work all the time my device is on rather than just inside my browser.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 12814982, 2 months agoAn sich ein wirklich klasse AddOn, was Webseiten definitiv zu schaffen macht.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Rinshun, 2 months ago

- Rated 4 out of 5by B00T987, 3 months agoI love this extension! However its a bit hard to use, because you have to uninstall, and reinstall the extension to open up the easy to use settings picker. If you change your settings as often as I do, if not then this is an easy 5/5 extension.

- Rated 4 out of 5by AnoniM0US3, 3 months agothe addon prevents "youtube comment search" addon from working
is there a way to fix this, without having to turn canvasblocker off each time?
or even better: can i block or unblock each element separately, until i find the culprit? (the way "NoScript" addon visualized this is very beginner userfriendly)
