  • Latest version

    Version 1.0.16

    Released Oct 18, 2026 - 89.81 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later, android 142.0 and later
    • The popup now names the affiliate tags a link keeps on purpose, and says why. With "Also remove affiliate tags" off (the default), CleanURL leaves them in because they pay whoever shared the link. The popup used to show "This URL is clean" next to a link still carrying, say, tag or cjevent, which made them look like missed trackers. Now it says, for example: "Kept on purpose: cjevent, awc. They are affiliate tags, which pay whoever shared the link. To remove them too, turn on 'Also remove affiliate tags' in Settings."
    • The "Clean clipboard link" result says the same for the link it cleaned.

    Version 1.0.15

    Released Oct 18, 2026 - 89.01 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later, android 142.0 and later
Since 1.0.9: more trackers removed (900+ by default), Google's click tracking skipped, Instagram's ever-changing share ids handled, one fewer permission at install, and a privacy policy.

    ON GOOGLE'S PAGES
    - Links on Search, Maps, Images and News that go through Google's google.com/url redirect now take you straight to the site when you click them, without the redirect or the click beacon. This includes Maps' "Website" button. A google.com/url link found anywhere else is left alone, so Google's redirect warning still protects you there.

    INSTAGRAM
    - Instagram now gives each share its own randomly named id (stkn, igsi, cplk, xtok, dlrf...). On posts and reels, CleanURL now keeps only img_index (the carousel slide) and removes everything else, whatever it is called.

    MORE TRACKERS REMOVED
    - Over 900 tracking parameters by default, up from about 600: ad click ids (Nextdoor, Snapchat, Yahoo and more), attribution tools (AppsFlyer, Northbeam, Triple Whale, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Eloqua, HubSpot's hss_channel and more), Google search's newer tracking fields, Spotify's sci share card.
    - Seven more Amazon stores are cleaned (.cn, .sg, .ae, .sa, .eg, .com.tr, .com.be), and the session id that best-seller list links add after /ref= is removed.
    - More redirect links are unwrapped when you copy them.

    AFFILIATE CODES (BEHAVIOUR CHANGE)
    - Affiliate codes are now always kept unless you turn on "Also remove affiliate tags". This covers the affiliate networks' click ids (CJ, Awin, ShareASale, Impact), eBay Partner Network, AliExpress, Booking.com, and Apple's attribution fields. Some were previously removed regardless.

    PERMISSIONS AND PRIVACY
    - Reading the clipboard is now an optional permission, asked for the first time you press "Clean clipboard link", instead of at install. After you allow it, the link is cleaned straight away.
    - CleanURL asks for the narrower declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess permission instead of declarativeNetRequest.
    - New privacy policy: https://github.com/paul2t/cleanurl/blob/main/PRIVACY.md. Nothing is collected or sent anywhere.
    - CleanURL is now open source under the MIT license.

    FIXES
    - The settings page and the popup now fit phone screens in Firefox for Android.
    - If the browser ever refuses one of CleanURL's network rules, the others are still installed.
