Neither the Quantum or the ESR version are satisfactory. Only the active tab is highlighted with color, other tabs are in background color and hard to see. And I see no configuration controls to manage its appearance. Let's hope a new version that provides better compatibility will be available soon.

For ESR, the only version that works is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/31.2.3 You will need to disable addon updates also.
