About this extension
Daisynon transforms accessible digital book files (DAISY Text / DTBook XML format) into readable pages directly in Firefox — no server, no internet connection, no complex setup.
Who is it for?
For visually impaired or blind users who receive their books in DAISY Text format (.xml) through services like BrailleNet, national libraries, or any provider distributing accessible e-books. Daisynon lets them read these files with their usual screen reader, directly from their computer.
What the extension does
Opens .xml DAISY Text (DTBook) files directly in Firefox
Automatically generates a structured table of contents by chapter
Announces page numbers naturally ("page 12") for smooth reading with NVDA
Works entirely offline — perfect for local use with downloaded files
No data is sent anywhere
Screen reader compatibility
Optimized for NVDA (Windows), and compatible with other screen readers (JAWS, VoiceOver, Orca…) thanks to a semantic HTML structure following ARIA accessibility standards.
How to use it
Download a DAISY Text file (.xml) to your computer
Open Firefox and drag the file into the window, or use File > Open with...
Daisynon automatically transforms the file into a readable page
About the DAISY format
The DAISY (Digital Accessible Information SYstem) format is an international standard designed to make digital books accessible to people with reading difficulties. It is used by libraries and associations worldwide.
