DeArrow - Better Titles and Thumbnails on YouTube by Ajay (SponsorBlock)

by Firefox user 15007095, 2 years agoUnfortunately it conflicts with "BlockTube", which is number 2 priority addon for me for youtube (3 is being SponsorBlock), so i have to disable it for now. But otherwise it's pretty good so far.
Reply (12.07):
I think i mostly have the default settings, but to be fair, its kind of a little buggy addon by itself, and i never found any better alternative.
It did work ok 3-4 days before that (ignoring the thumbnail and general lag), but after that some videos just suddenly stopped playing altogether, and other ones break mid-play, and disabling "dearrow" instantly stopped all of it.

posted 2 years agoInteresting, it shouldn't. Are there specific settings you have enabled in BlockTube that conflict?
Edit: oh that's a separate issue, but that should be fixed now

The replaced thumbnails are very hit and miss. Replacing clickbait is one thing, but this extension just want to replace all of them indiscriminatingly, removing useful information. Quite a bit are literally just replaced with blank images or other junk... - Rated 5 out of 5by ta44, 3 days ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19094068, 5 days agoA great addon that de-clickbaits youtube. Only downside is that after using it for some time, you realise that most of what reaches the front page is just slop. I happily paid for DeArrow as it has made the youtube experience much better for filtering good content out of the slop.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19092967, 5 days agoAggressively asks for payment despite 99% of its value being derived from the community that contributes the titles/thumbnails __for free__. Imagine if Wikipedia tried to charge a monthly subscription...
Asking for donations is one thing, and you certainly deserve some money for the work you've done here, but there's a difference between politely asking for a donation and blocking somebody's path until they shove you out of the way - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19001582, 16 days ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Seumas, 21 days agoLike its sister extension (SponsorBlock), DeArrow changes the game when it comes to experiencing Youtube. If only were were a solution on mobile and elsewhere, too. Crowdsourced video titles means no more hyperbole, obnoxious formatting, and outright lying or baiting. And when you *do* run into those things, it feels good improving them so that others with the extension can benefit from a clearer and cleaner experience. I almost never pay or donate for extensions (though I have), but I immediately did so for DeArrow and SponsorBlock. I hope these extensions both grow in popularity, so even more videos are improved at a faster rate.
The only reason I knocked a star off of this review is that if I don't QUICKLY add the title when the input interface is open, it will always kill my entire browser (Zen Browser on Windows 11 usually). Everything -- all windows, tabs, etc -- the whole browser just hangs and the only way to get it working again is to kill the process and launch again. It happens so quickly that I have to type my title out in notepad, then copy it so that as soon as I open the input interface, I can immediately paste it in and hit the submit button.
However, if using it passively (not contributing -- just getting the benefit of better titles), it has no apparent negative impact. I would contribute more frequently if it were more stable, but it is otherwise terrific. - Rated 3 out of 5by walu, a month agothe thumbnail replacement is great, i don't use the title replacement. unfortunately, whenever i click on the "open submission menu" pencil icon, firefox freezes entirely and i have to kill and restart it :(

posted 2 months agoSubmissions from new users have been restricted because someone is automatically creating many bots and sending malicious titles across youtube. We are working to slowly allow newer users to submit again - Rated 5 out of 5by klementine des pêches, 3 months ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by SimoX9, 3 months agoIt's paid, there is no option to use it free, the description is lying, best you get is 'free' 6 hours before it lockes you from using it..

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 15998822, 4 months agoWeird plug in that doesn't really work until you figure out if the author wants to be paid or not. It's only $1 (I think), and offers the option of just either having a trial or using it for free, but neither of the last options worked.
I'm sure this is a great idea, but I couldn't get it to work to check if I liked it. Just make it paid for or not please, I don't want to have to faff about trying to get it to work. - Rated 5 out of 5by ramiel, 4 months ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Morgoz, 4 months agoWorks great with English content however since it is crowdsourced when it's not popular in certain countries or certain languages it's really hard to find an usage. Still, a great extension for English YouTube videos.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15145534, 4 months agoJust miss a miscellaneous tab (like sponsorblock has) where we can ad other domains to use it (invidious). But works great with youtube.
- Rated 5 out of 5by tanh, 4 months agoYouTube is a steaming pile of crap unfit for human consumption without DeArrow and SponsorBlock (and uBlock Origin).
- Rated 2 out of 5by asid, 4 months agofrustrating. most titles / thumbnails are either verbose / useless or don't change at all. picking titles or thumbnails (both of which you have to do after already clicking on the video) does nothing 90% of the time and reverts after it does work, probably because majority vote matters more than your own, rather than just being the default used.
