DemoVoice - Hear CS2 Demo Voice Comms (FACEIT) by Aygul
DemoVoice privacy policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026
DemoVoice is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox that downloads a CS2 match demo from a FACEIT match room, reads the list of players on your computer, and builds the console command that lets you hear the voice comms of the players you choose. It is published by zeroutil.com.
The short version: the demo never leaves your computer. DemoVoice has no server of its own and no account, never sends your demos, your match data or anything that identifies you, has no advertising network, and loads no code from the internet. It does send anonymous usage counts to Google Analytics so we can see whether downloads work. On Chrome and Edge you can switch that off in settings; on Firefox it stays off unless you allow it.
WHAT DEMOVOICE CONNECTS TO
DemoVoice makes network requests to four places only:
- www.faceit.com. When you open a CS2 match room, DemoVoice asks FACEIT for that match's map and time, to label its button. When you press the button, it asks FACEIT for the match's demo and for a download link. These requests go to FACEIT's own site from the match room page, so your browser sends them with the FACEIT session you are already signed in with, exactly as FACEIT's own page would. DemoVoice does not read, store or transmit your FACEIT cookies or password.
- The storage servers FACEIT publishes demos on (.backblazeb2.com and .faceit-cdn.net). DemoVoice downloads the demo archive from the short-lived link FACEIT gave it. That link is used once and never stored.
- www.google-analytics.com, for anonymous usage counts (see below). Nothing is loaded from it; DemoVoice only sends to it.
- Nothing else. DemoVoice sends no data to zeroutil.com or to any other server.
ANONYMOUS USAGE COUNTS
To find out whether DemoVoice works in practice (how often a download finishes, how often it fails and why, which steps people use), DemoVoice sends short event counts to Google Analytics, which processes them for us.
What is sent: which step happened (the button appeared, a download started, finished, failed or was cancelled, the player list was opened and whether in the popup or the side panel, which of the commands was copied, a CS2 folder was connected, the extension was installed or updated), the error type when something failed (for example "link expired", "network" or "player list could not be read"), the kind of unexpected error when one of DemoVoice's own pages crashes (only its type, such as "TypeError", never its message), whether the saved demo went to your CS2 folder or your downloads, a rough size range of the demo, the extension version, the browser (Chrome, Edge or Firefox), and a random id created when DemoVoice is installed so counts from the same install can be grouped. Once a day it also sends a "still installed" signal, marked with whether DemoVoice was used that day.
The random id is not linked to your name, your FACEIT or Steam account, or anything else about you, but it is a pseudonymous id: it lets counts from one install be told apart from another's. As with any request on the internet, Google also receives your IP address, which Google Analytics uses to estimate a rough location (country and region) and does not store or show us.
What is never sent: FACEIT match ids or links, player names or SteamIDs, file names, the demo or anything read from it, error messages, or the pages you visit.
Your choice: on Chrome and Edge the counts are on until you untick "Send anonymous usage stats" in DemoVoice's settings. On Firefox they are off until you allow them, either when installing or with the same setting. Google Analytics keeps this event data for two months.
WHAT HAPPENS ON YOUR COMPUTER
The downloaded demo is decompressed and read inside your browser. DemoVoice reads the players' in-game names, SteamIDs, teams and slot numbers, and the map, from the demo file. Nothing from the demo is uploaded.
The finished .dem file is saved to your downloads folder or, on Chrome and Edge, to the CS2 folder you chose in settings. While the file is being unpacked it is staged in the browser's private storage for this extension and removed afterwards.
WHAT DEMOVOICE STORES
Everything DemoVoice keeps is stored locally in your browser, in storage that belongs to the extension:
- Your demo list: for each demo you downloaded, the FACEIT match id, the file name, its size, the date, the map, and the players read from it (names, SteamIDs, teams, slot numbers). Up to 30 demos, newest first. The demo file itself is not kept here.
- Which players you ticked.
- Your settings: whether DemoVoice opens as a popup or in the side panel, and whether usage counts are on.
- For usage counts: the random install id, and small counters that keep the counts from repeating.
- On Chrome and Edge, if you chose your CS2 folder: the browser's permission handle for that one folder. It gives access to that folder only.
You can remove a demo from the list with the X next to it. Uninstalling DemoVoice deletes everything it stored.
WHAT DEMOVOICE READS IN YOUR BROWSER
DemoVoice runs only on FACEIT CS2 match room pages. The popup and side panel read the address of the tab you are looking at, only to tell whether it is a FACEIT match room and which one. DemoVoice does not read or record your browsing on any other site.
NOTIFICATIONS
If you turn on notifications in settings, your browser asks you for permission, and DemoVoice then shows a system notification when a demo finishes or fails while you are in another tab or in the game. Turning the setting off gives the permission back.
LINKS
DemoVoice contains links to zeroutil.com (the sponsor line, the product page, the contact form), to a donation page, and to its store listing for ratings. Nothing is sent when these links are shown. If you click one, that page opens in a new tab and is covered by that site's own privacy policy. Links to zeroutil.com carry tags that tell zeroutil.com the visit came from the extension; they carry no information about you or your demos.
CHILDREN
DemoVoice is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
CHANGES
If this policy changes, the new version is published at https://zeroutil.com/demovoice/privacy/ with a new date. A change that means DemoVoice starts sending any data off your computer would be described there before it ships.
