Privacy policy for down.blue

Full policy (English and Portuguese): https://down.blue/extension/privacy/

Last updated: 2026-10-14. Applies to the down.blue extension for Chrome and Firefox, version 0.1.0 and later.

The down.blue extension collects nothing. It has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no accounts and no remote code, and it makes no network requests of its own.

What the extension does

When you click the down.blue button on a post, choose "Download with down.blue" in the right-click menu, or click the toolbar button on a post page, the extension reads the address of that post and opens a new tab at https://down.blue/?url=<post address>. That is the only time the post address leaves the page, and only because you asked for it.

From that point on you are on the down.blue website, which is a separate service with its own privacy policy. The extension does not send anything else to down.blue.

What is stored on your device

The extension saves three settings in your browser's local extension storage:

  • the extra sites you added on the options page;
  • the theme you picked for the options page;
  • whether the button should show on every post.

These settings never leave your browser and are not synced. Removing the extension deletes them.

Permissions
  • Context menus: to add "Download with down.blue" to the right-click menu.
  • Active tab: to read the address of the current tab when you click the toolbar button.
  • Storage: to save the settings listed above.
  • Scripting: to add the button to extra sites you choose on the options page.
  • Site access: bsky.app, deer.social, blacksky.community, witchsky.app and northsky.app, to show the button on posts. Access to any other site is optional and is only requested, one site at a time, when you add that site yourself. You can remove it from the options page at any time.

The extension does not read your posts, messages, account details or browsing history.
