DuckDuckGo Search & Tracker Protection by DuckDuckGo

by Firefox user 13390522, 8 years agoI've become a big fan of duckduckgo over the past few years as I've grown more aware of the rampant privacy/security transgresisions that flock with you everywhere you go on the web. I like this extension - it worked well enough, but for me it felt like a bit of a compromise so that more people will use it (which I think is a really good thing in a lot of ways) compared to the mix of privacy/security extensions I usually run. That extra protection comes at the cost of lots of manual feedback/whitelisting/blacklisting to pretty much every new site I got to which is a pain in the ass, and is prone to breaking sites which means I've got to spend more time tinkering with the settings. This extension however, seemed to work well enough out of the box and hasnt created any issues with breaking sites.
If you're at all concerned about privacy, or feel violated by companies watching everything you do on the web and then selling that to whomever is willing to pay for it, but arent wanting to spend anything more than a nominal amount of time to protect yourself than this is a great option.

Yes, that can happen with privacy protection tools.
But unlike the other tools I use to block trackers, it doesn't allow me to opt-out for specifc sites, nor does it report what it blocks.
That lack of end-user transparancy and control is a red flag. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19173908, 13 days ago

more advanced control could be appreciate - Rated 5 out of 5by Lilith D. Bracken, 24 days agoThis extension is great for keeping your searches and browsing more private. It blocks trackers and prevents sites from collecting unnecessary data while you browse. Everything works automatically in the background, so you don’t have to adjust settings constantly. It makes searching and visiting websites feel safer and cleaner, and it’s a simple way to protect your privacy without extra hassle.
 - Rated 3 out of 5by displayName, a month agoI had this installed for a few years, since recently it breaks, i.e. removes a range of essential button panels on my university website.
 - Rated 2 out of 5by ForgottenUmbrella, 2 months agoincredibly stupid that you need to install a whole extension just to generate email aliases

 - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 18893378, 4 months agoNot as good as Privacy Badger, only reason to use is to know safe website is which is bery handy and reason I will rate it 4 stars, but as a blocker it claims site breakage if some things are blocked which I noticed is often false so use Privacy Badger or another one that blocks even more if you do your reasearch, yes it exists although nobody tells you of course in this day and age only info is mostly lies and ai bots, so if you are human like me than keep searching for it you will eventually find it, it isn't bought out by the evil corps that love to ruin everything once good. P.S. Duckduckgo is fairly junky in terms of finding good results you will end up with tons of stuff that you didn't even search for, better off using brave or presearch because it's not owned by the evil corps that don't care about us except making money.
