Ecosia — The search engine that plants trees 🌱 by Ecosia Dev Team

by Varniit, 10 months agoHey Ecosia team, giving 2 stars as of now. Reasons.
First, searches are way too limited and unhelpful. If I have to search something here, it means I should not be going back to Google. But out of 10 searches, 7 take me back to Google. For same reason, I have stopped using your default Ecosia browser on all devices. Consider improving searches. Also, what is this new thing forced called weather by accuweather on search results pages without any option to disable or remove it? Dont be like Bing or Google in this case. I could not disable it.Also, cant change the font as the current font is unreadable by me. I use your search on opera browser as default but in all these years, no major updates in search results.
Second, Duckduckgo addon, not only allows us to change search engine but also gives us "option" change the new tab and homepage of browser, here Firefox. Try yourself. But ecosia addon doesnt, so if I had Ecosia addon installed, I see new tab or home tab as default firefox one with google search bar. Consider adding option to change home page image for this too both your collections and manually.
Hoping, you will make this better and I will update my ratings thereafter.

- Rated 1 out of 5by creature, 22 days agoused for a long time and was always pretty happy with it until they introduced generative ai features. gen ai is HORRIBLE for the environment. i cant keep using a search engine that claims to do good for the planet when they have features like that, it's completely contradictory. im not sure you can even turn it off? it shouldnt have features like that to begin with, much less have them be the default for all users.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Teksoma, a month agoWas my go to search engine until AI overview was forced into my face. Pretty oxymoronic to advocate for a better planet and turn around and destroy it with AI datacenters.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 19104523, a month agoSearch button in the right click menu was removed with the latest update. Don´t know why I would need this add-on without it.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Kelson, 2 months agoSlightly better results than Google Search these days, and slightly more private than using Google or Bing directly, though privacy isn't their primary focus. I appreciate the company's commitment to sustainability!

- Rated 1 out of 5by Stef, 4 months agoReally disappointed that this add-on didn't save my history or my bookmarks. I've lost weeks of research because of this. Plus the results coming up when googling something are rarely pertinent compared to other research engines.
