Privacy Policy

FetLife Scanner ("the Extension", "we", "our") is a Firefox browser extension that helps users filter and organize publicly visible profiles on FetLife.com. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information

When you create an account to access premium features, we collect:

Email address — Used for account authentication and subscription management
Password — Stored as a one-way bcrypt hash; we never store or see your plain text password


1.2 Subscription & Payment Data

If you subscribe to a paid plan (Prowler or Dominant), payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, bank account, or other financial details. We only store:

Your Stripe customer ID (an opaque identifier)
Your subscription plan tier and billing interval
Subscription status and billing period dates


1.3 Scan & Profile Data (Stored Locally)

When you run a scan, the Extension processes publicly visible profile information from FetLife pages you visit. This data is stored locally on your device using your browser's IndexedDB storage. It is never sent to our servers. Locally stored data includes:

Profile HTML snippets (usernames, age, gender, roles) from scan results
Profile screenshots captured during scanning
Your personal notes, tags, favorites, and "contacted" markers
Scan history (dates, locations scanned, profile counts)
Your filter preferences (gender, age range, roles)


1.4 City Usage Data (Prowler Plan)

If you are on the Prowler plan, we track which city/location paths you have scanned during your current billing period to enforce the 5-city limit. This is stored on our server as a URL path (e.g., /p/united-states/new-york/rochester/kinksters) and a human-readable label. No profile data is included.
1.5 Data We Do NOT Collect

Your FetLife username or password
Your FetLife browsing history outside of active scans
Credit card or bank account information
Your IP address (beyond standard server access logs)
Location data from your device (GPS, etc.)
Any data from other websites or browser tabs


1. How We Use Your Information
   
   Account management — To authenticate your identity and manage your subscription
   Feature access — To determine which features are available based on your plan tier
   City tracking — To enforce Prowler plan city limits per billing period
   Payment processing — Via Stripe, to process subscription payments

We do not use your data for advertising, marketing to third parties, analytics profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Extension.
3. Data Storage & Security
3.1 Local Data

All scan results, notes, tags, favorites, and filter settings are stored locally in your browser's IndexedDB. This data never leaves your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing the extension's data or uninstalling the Extension.
3.2 Server Data

Account data (email, hashed password, subscription info, city locks) is stored on a secure server with:

HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
Bcrypt password hashing (cost factor 12)
SHA-256 hashed authentication tokens
Token-based auth with 30-day expiry


1. Third-Party Services
   4.1 Stripe

We use Stripe for payment processing. When you subscribe to a paid plan, you are redirected to Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe collects and processes your payment information under their own privacy policy. We receive only a customer ID and subscription status from Stripe.
4.2 FetLife

The Extension reads publicly visible profile data from FetLife.com pages that you actively navigate to. We are not affiliated with FetLife. The Extension only operates on FetLife pages when you initiate a scan. It does not access private messages, friend lists, groups, or any non-public content.
5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with any third party, except as required by law or as necessary to process payments through Stripe.
6. Your Rights & Controls

Delete local data — Clear your extension data through Firefox's Add-ons Manager at any time
Delete your account — Contact us to request full deletion of your account and all server-stored data
Cancel subscription — Cancel at any time through the Account page or Stripe billing portal
Export data — Use the extension's built-in export feature to download your locally stored data
Data portability — Your local data is stored in standard browser storage and can be exported as JSON


1. Data Retention
   
   Local data persists until you clear it or uninstall the Extension
   Account data is retained while your account is active
   City lock records are retained for billing period tracking and reset each cycle
   Upon account deletion request, all server-stored data is permanently removed within 30 days
2. Children's Privacy

This Extension is intended for adults aged 18 and older only. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.
9. Firefox Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

activeTab — To read profile data from the FetLife page you are currently viewing
storage / unlimitedStorage — To save your scan history, notes, tags, and preferences locally
tabs — To navigate between pages during multi-page scanning, open report pages, and capture profile screenshots


The Extension only accesses fetlife.com, its image CDN, our backend server, and Stripe's checkout page. It does not access any other websites.
10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
