- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14452473, 6 years agoDear Beccare, thank you so so so much for your time and energy for creating this new Addon!!!
Like many others my browsing style relied heavily on the famous SearchWP functionality. I have tried many 'highlight search' addons but all failed miserably in boosting my productivity. And then I found this gem!
Suggestion for an update: a 'highlight permenantly on' option.
I'll spread the word! Thank you!!! - Rated 5 out of 5by Mathias, 6 years agoGreat add-on! It may not be as ideal as the original (SearchWP), but I'm glad you created this.
I hope a way to directly populate the search bar with search terms can be added soon. - Rated 5 out of 5by David.P, 6 years agoThis is a great first step towards the re-creation of the legendary SearchWP addon, for Firefox Quantum.
I wish a way could be found to actually populate the Firefox Search Box with the search terms (as SearchWP did). This way, the search terms could be easily changed manually in each tab as needed.
Looking forward to any new features in the near future. Keep up the great work!Developer response
posted 6 years agoThank you. Unfortunately, the Firefox Search Box is off-limits for add-ons right now, that is where the SearchWP developers gave up and the point of my work-around.
Would you find it feasible to go via right-click/Properties to change a keyword? A direct (quick and dirty) way would be to change the javascript under "Location", I could put a variable for the keyword in front of that code. The more accessible "Name" property is much more difficult to use (a background vs. content script issue) and I'm hesitant to look into that if you say that right-click/Properties was too cumbersome, anyway.
Another approach would be to insert fields into the actual web pages displayed in the tabs, maybe added space on top of each page (as long as they allow it, like some refuse the highlighting, too). But then, we would need another toggle bookmarklet, since I won't disfigure every single page with the key words ... - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14202094, 6 years agoTruly the only alternative to SearchWP when it comes to Firefox 57ff.
