- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13034262, 8 years agoForecastfox is a GREAT add-in. I get a week's worth of weather info at a glance - always there, always updated.
However, I have no good things to say about Firefox development which seems to want to trash Forecastfox every couple of updates. I stopped updating Firefox for a while because it kept killing off Forecastfox. Now, it's done it again.
Why would Firefox deliberately keep kicking its most popular add-ins into the dumpster? I got onboard with Firefox at Version 1.5, but I'm looking for a better alternative now.Developer response

He has heard every nasty complaint and addressed each one with a flexible, totally functional add-on that not only made me feel glad to have donated, but is sending me back to RE-donating! Thank you for all of this work!
PRECEDING REVIEW (which was called "almost there"):
As of this new version, I can move the icon to the Add-on bar, but this requires installing the extension "New Add-on Bar" -- which I hope will continue to work in future versions of Firefox.
The only issue is that it is only available as a pop-up, not as a strip of multiple days. That strip was really useful.
BTW, I contributed to this developer, and he is responsive -- so I encourage others to do so as well.Developer response

Im Vergleich ist Forecastfox immer noch ein Super Add-on.
Vielen Dank für Ihre Arbeit, bleiben sie dran ;-)Developer response

Addonbar/statusbar may not be available but menubar is-which is where I keep (or kept) Forecastfox. Can't do that now so it's no use to me, I've deleted it.

Changes to your add-on may not be liked by some, but in this case, it is a necessity. Please continue the good work.

If that's not an option, this addon become useless. There are a ton of addons that do what you made this one now do.

The current version of Forecastfox is the version for the new API: WebExtensions
But I'm not guilty - these are the inevitable changes in Firefox.

But do not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13028172, 8 years agoI want to be able to see multiple days of weather on the addon bar. I don't want to have to click on it. i reverted back to the old version. new version isn't worth it.

But do not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form - Rated 3 out of 5by geekess, 8 years agoand don't need two showing the temperature. I loved the previous version that sat in my tool bar, and allowed me to have the days side by side. I love being able to mouse over the radar and have it automagically show me how far away the rain is. The WU add-on already gives me (very) local temps in my taskbar with its icon. I don't need two add-ons doing the same thing. I've rolled back the update on my desktop since seeing the change on my laptop. I will be rolling back that update as well.
This used to be a five-star add-on, and I'm sure, will be again. But not right now.Developer response

But do not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form - Rated 1 out of 5by Ceanco, 8 years agoI appreciate the work the developer has done, but until the NoScript bug can be fixed - you can't whitelist the add-on so it can't be used - this is unusable for those of us using NoScript - which is a hell of a lot of people!
Sorry, Oleksandr, but this is no good.Developer response

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=2913287 - Rated 3 out of 5by cactusneedle, 8 years agoI was able to back and reinstall the prior version from the FF(fix) home page. Now it works. Find the previous versions to get out of this fix. Try to stop it from automatically updating itself.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Gone Postal, 8 years agoI've used the addon for a long time. The developer has always responded very quickly to problems and queries. Hope he manages to restore the functionality lost due to forthcoming Mozilla changes.
- Rated 5 out of 5by bruceb, 8 years agoThe developer is working on fixing the UI to something better or closer to the original version. Which 2.4.8 still works just fine.

"But do not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form" - Rated 1 out of 5by Proft, 8 years agoMenu bar no longer shows forecast options. Without this the add-on is not useful. And what is with the advertising hooks? Removing the add-on until this is fixed.

This one is WAY TOO minimalist. Everything you need to know "quickly" isn't shown anymore unless you click. And then again, Satellite is so small it gets you on a new page... Well. Better put a hotlink to a REAL weather site. Gonna delete this. Sorry and & Thank you.

http://www.s3blog.org/forecastfox.html - Rated 2 out of 5by jeremy, 8 years agoi notice they my forecast fox was missing from the bottom toolbar today, that was until i notice a small yellow dot. i was a little upset because i took forecast fox over other programs that give you a little dot of something in any of the toolbars. i removed the newest version of forecast fox and took the 2. whatever and loaded it back on so i can see everything that's happening with weather and weather for the next 2 days. the full view is best and i think that is what made forecast fox better than other weather apps. sometimes change isn't always the best idea.

People just don't like change but I understand why you had to change it.. I just have one suggestion and that is too give us an option to disable the satellite because it doesn't always load and I'd rather not have it when I click on the weather button. Thanks for your work!

posted 8 years agodo not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form - Rated 3 out of 5by mathom, 8 years agoWhen the original Forecastfox became unusable, I was extremely disappointed, since it was the perfect weather add-on for me - small, informative, and always there with no clicking pr pointing required.
When the fix version showed up, I was thrilled. Once again, the perfect weather add-on was back.
Now, however, it's gone, and it appears it's gone for good, because of the changes firefox is making. I get that this is not the developer's fault, but it makes forecastfox clunky and not very usable for me.
I can go to almost any page and get weather. What made forecastfox so great is that there was a wealth of information in a small space, and it was always there, no clicking needed, so even if you were busy with something that you couldn't interrupt, you could see what the weather would be tomorrow.
Thank you for making the fix version. I'll probably keep it, for now at least, but I'll be looking for a new solution again.Developer response

I deleted it and tried reinstalling but I see nothing with this new one. I am running Firefox 64bit ver 53. I will miss this for sure.

But do not worry, I'll come up with a workaround and will return Forecastfox previous form - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13024827, 8 years agoRecently, this add-on, which WAS wonderful and did exactly what I wanted it to do, changed.
In researching the issue, I discovered that the developer, Alexander (Oleksandr) Popov lives in Kyiv. In March of 2022, he posted a response to a Google conversations regarding Forecastfox that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he's no longer able to lead the development of his addons.
"Oleksandr Popov

I'm creator. I'm from Ukraine, Kyiv. Not Russia!!!!!
I can not now lead the development of extension, because there is a war in my country.
Sorry!"
This probably explains why this addon isn't working anymore. Some recent changes in the the URL's for the weather services his addon links to are the likely reason for the disruption. And this assumes he's still alive.
Personally, I'll look for an alternative for a while, but I won't uninstall it. I wish him and his fellow countrymen and women well.Developer response
