About this extension
Give your AI tools live, cited answers from Google AI Overviews, as clean Markdown. No API keys. Nothing leaves your machine.
Google AI Overview Scraper is the browser half of a small local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. When Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop or any other MCP client asks a question, this extension runs the search in a background tab, extracts the AI Overview, and sends back Markdown with source citations.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Your AI tool calls the local MCP server.
2. The extension opens a background Google AI Mode tab. It never steals focus.
3. The AI Overview is converted to Markdown with citations.
4. Everything flows back to your tool, with a thread_id for follow-up questions.
WHAT YOU GET
• Clean Markdown with deduplicated source citations
• Follow-up questions in the same conversation (thread_id)
• Pro or fast mode, chosen per query by your AI tool
• Google account picker with automatic quota rotation
• Image generation through the generate_image tool
• Live connection status in the toolbar popup
• Works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and any MCP client
SET UP IN A MINUTE
1. Install this extension.
2. Install uv (https://docs.astral.sh/uv/) and run: uvx google-ai-scraper
3. Add the server to your MCP client:
{
"mcpServers": {
"google-ai-scraper": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": ["google-ai-scraper"]
}
}
}

• search: query Google AI Overview, get Markdown + citations + thread_id
• follow_up: continue a conversation in an existing thread
• generate_image: generate an image and save it to disk
• health: check the server and extension connection
PRIVACY
• Talks only to google.com and a server on your own machine (localhost)
• No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no data collection
• Open source: https://github.com/balakumardev/google-ai-scraper

This add-on only talks to localhost and google.com. It opens background search tabs, extracts Google AI Overview output into markdown with citations, and sends the result back to the user's local MCP/HTTP server.
