- Rated 3 out of 5by MatsSvensson, 6 years agoNice, but i wish it would just work like the original speed dial.
It keep opening an extra invisible window, how do I turn that off?
And the rules for rendering thumbs makes no sense at all.
Why are there separate settings for how its rendered when its reloaded and 2-3 various other ones that seem to be triggered at random?
Whatever you do to finally get it to look sharp, after a while it always ends up looking like a crap later.Developer response
posted 6 years agoHello,
The thumbnails generation is very complex process now. Sadly the API that was available before for the SpeedDial is not available anymore.
There are three options for generating thumbnails and each of them has some advantages and some disadvantages.
But the best results are from the background reload - which works in the invisible tab. These thumbnails should be sharp.
This method is by default used when you add a new dial (unless you use "Add this page to dial" from context menu on a page).
You can also use reload by visiting page which also yields good thumbnails and it works on any page.
I will try to simplify the options in near future for easier usage...

- Rated 4 out of 5by TORO, 6 years agohello, very nice speeddial but,... for example if I want nice thumbnails with full width and without ads I must first set default zoom in browser and use slow "refresh by visiting page" option... please look at FVD they doing this in background with respecting browser settings like adblocker and web snapshot in thumbnails are big. But still this is great addon. Thanks

posted 6 years agoHello,
There will be a new background refresh that will work exactly as you mentioned.
I'm not sure when exactly, but it's planned.
Until it's done, you can at least tweak one value - in Options page / Thumbnails / "Default virtual page width". By default it's 1280 - like old notebook screens. You can try to increase it to 1920 - but I'm not sure if it's gonna be better (not a lot of webs is properly optimized for FullHD).

- Rated 2 out of 5by Jezze, 6 years agoWhy doesn't this add-on use my existing bookmarks to display links and folders as tiles. It makes absolutely no sense to have another bookmark manager! Is there even an import function?
Developer response
posted 6 years agoHello,
Yes there is import feature - in the Options page / Import backup tab - see the "Import dials from Firefox bookmarks '.json' file" option.
The synchronization with bookmarks is planned feature and it will come in the future. But it was not requested by many users as other features.
Have a nice weekend :)

posted 6 years agoHello,
This is most probably known Firefox Sync. issue - if you setup GroupSpeedDial as homepage on several devices - with Firefox sync. enabled - Firefox will synchronize wrong URL (every add-on has different URL on different device).
I reported this bug a long time ago and it should be fixed in current Firefox (make sure you use at least Firefox 60 on all your devices):
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1412083
What should help is excluding Homepage from synchronization:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/919674
(basically just go to "about:config" page and change setting "services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage" to false)
If this doens't help, please contact me to my support e-mail.
