About this extension

rohan converts PDF files to plain text (.txt) or Markdown (.md), entirely in your browser.

ON A PDF TAB
Open a PDF on the web and click the rohan button: copy its content or download it as .txt or .md in one click. When a PDF finishes loading, the hat of the toolbar icon tips and turns gold to let you know.

CONVERTER PAGE
Drop any PDF from your computer, preview the result, switch between Text and Markdown, then copy or download it.

MARKDOWN OUTPUT
• Headings detected from font sizes
• Paragraphs rebuilt from the lines of the page
• Bulleted and numbered lists

PRIVACY
• No account, no tracking, no data collected.
• The PDF is converted on your computer with pdf.js. Nothing is uploaded.
• The only network request is downloading again the PDF already open in your tab, from its own website.

PERMISSIONS
• activeTab: read the URL of the current tab when you click the button, to know whether it shows a PDF.
• Access to websites (optional): asked on the first PDF, never at install. Used to download the PDF of the tab and to recognise PDF tabs for the icon.

LIMITATIONS
• The URL of the tab must end with .pdf.
• Firefox does not let extensions read local files (file://): use the converter page instead.
• Scanned PDFs without a text layer give no text (no OCR).
