Jaspidian - Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-16
Jaspidian is a personal-use tool that runs entirely on your own computer. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any remote server. It is not affiliated with Meta, Facebook, or Obsidian.
What Jaspidian accesses
When you click "Scan this page" on a Facebook tab, the extension reads the already-rendered page of that tab: the posts, authors, comments, images, and timestamps Facebook has already shown you. It does not access:

Your Facebook password, email, or session cookies

Any private API, GraphQL endpoint, or non-public Facebook data

Any other browser tab

Your browsing history or bookmarks

Files on your computer outside the Obsidian vault folder you have configured

What Jaspidian stores
The browser extension stores the following in the browser's extension storage, on your computer only:

Your preferences: comment mode, folder pattern, attachments folder, vault list

An optional bearer token, if you choose to require one for the plugin

A short log of recent export results, shown in the popup

The Obsidian plugin stores its settings inside your vault (.obsidian/plugins/jaspidian/data.json). Nothing in either store is ever transmitted anywhere.
What Jaspidian transmits
Jaspidian transmits exactly one thing: the extracted post content (Markdown and image data) from the browser extension to the Obsidian plugin running on your computer, over 127.0.0.1:37123, a loopback address. The data never leaves your computer.
Jaspidian also fetches image files from Facebook's image servers (*.fbcdn.net) so it can save attachments into your vault. These are the same requests your browser makes when it displays the page.
Third-party services
Jaspidian does not use any analytics, error reporting, advertising, or telemetry service, and does not contact any Jaspidian server.
Optional AI "prettify" feature (Obsidian plugin only, off by default): if you turn it on in the Obsidian plugin settings and enter your own OpenRouter API key or Ollama URL, the plugin sends the content of the note you are saving to that provider. OpenRouter is a cloud service with its own privacy policy; Ollama sends data to whatever URL you enter (your own computer if you use localhost). If you do not enable it, no data goes to any third party. The browser add-on itself never contacts any AI service.
Permissions explained

storage: save your preferences locally

tabs: open a background tab on a post's own page to capture comments that haven't loaded in your current view

downloads: save the note as a .md file if the Obsidian plugin is unavailable

scripting: briefly scroll that background tab so Facebook loads the comments

Access to facebook.com and fbcdn.net: read the page and fetch images

Access to 127.0.0.1:37123: send the finished note to the Obsidian plugin on your computer

Children's privacy
Jaspidian is not directed at children under 13.
