Privacy policy for LinkedIn Commute Time
Last updated: September 23, 2026
LinkedIn Commute Time ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed by the extension, how it is handled, and your rights regarding your data.
The extension operates on a local-first principle. We do not operate external tracking servers, analytics services, or user databases. All information entered into or generated by the extension stays directly on your device.
- Home Address / City: If you enter your home address or city, it is used solely to calculate travel distances and commute times to job locations.
- API Keys (Optional): If you provide an API key for OpenRouteService or Google Maps, it is used solely to authenticate direct requests from your browser to those respective routing services.
- Transport Mode Preferences: Your selection (Car, Cycling, Walking, or Transit) is stored to show accurate commute estimates and icons.
- Commute times calculated from your home location to various cities are stored locally in your browser so you do not have to recalculate routes repeatedly.
- Any CSV files you upload are parsed locally and stored strictly in local browser storage.
- When viewing jobs on LinkedIn, the extension notes whether you have applied to, saved, or viewed a job to display visual tags and track application dates.
- This tracker data (job title, company, status, and date) is kept strictly inside your local browser storage.
All the data listed above is stored using the browser's standard
chrome.storage.local API on your computer. None of this data is transmitted to us or any unauthorized third party. The extension only connects to external network endpoints when you explicitly trigger commute time calculations:
- OpenRouteService (
api.openrouteservice.org): Used for geocoding and direction route calculations when you select OpenRouteService in the Auto-Calculate tab. - Google Maps API (
maps.googleapis.com): Used for geocoding and directions when you select Google Maps in the Auto-Calculate tab.
When these requests are made, only the minimum information necessary to calculate directions (origin address and destination city) is sent. Please refer to OpenRouteService and Google privacy policies for information regarding how they handle routing queries.
The extension makes no other background network connections and contains no third-party trackers, advertisements, or analytics SDKs.
The extension runs a content script strictly on
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/*. It only inspects the public DOM elements of job listings (job title, company name, location, and application status tags) to display commute badges and apply color highlights.
- The extension does not access, collect, or store your LinkedIn credentials, passwords, session tokens, or personal account details.
- The extension does not modify any data on LinkedIn servers.
We do not sell, rent, monetize, or transfer any personal information or browsing data to any third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks under any circumstances.
You have complete control over your data at all times:
* You can clear all custom commute data anytime by clicking Clear Data or Clear saved data in the extension popup.
* You can clear all tracked job application history anytime by clicking Clear History in the extension popup.
* Uninstalling the extension from your browser will permanently delete all stored data from your device.
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the revised version will be published in this repository with an updated date.
