lunarkbot Start – New Tab Tiles & Folders by lunarkbot

A new tab page that behaves like a Start menu: tiles you arrange yourself, folders that open in place, and drag-and-drop that does what you expect. Everything works locally from the first launch — synchronization is anonymous, optional, and something you switch on, not something you sign up for.

What you get

• Tiles and folders — drop one tile onto another and you have a folder; a folder opens in place.
• Drag-and-drop to arrange everything, or lock the layout.
• Profiles — separate layouts, for example Work and Home, on one set of tiles.
• Your own look — solid color, gradient or your own image, optional frosted glass under the tiles, icon size, spacing and tiles per row.
• Site icons in high resolution, and your own image for any tile.
• Backup to a file and back, without sync.
• English, German and Ukrainian, following your browser's language.

What it changes in Firefox

lunarkbot Start replaces the new tab page and the home page with its grid. Firefox tells you about the change and lets you undo it; removing the extension restores both.

What leaves your device

• Site icons: to show a tile's icon, the extension asks its own server, api.start.lunarkbot.dev, for the icon of the tile's domain (for a few well-known services, the product instead — for example sheets.google.com). Your browser never contacts the sites themselves or a third-party icon service for this. Icons are cached on your device.
• Sync, only if you turn it on: your tiles, folders and profiles are stored under a random key generated on your device — no account, no email, no password. Addresses and names are encrypted on your device before upload; the server stores the grid's structure and your appearance settings, not what is on it.
• Never: background images, your own tile icons and backup files stay on your device. No analytics, no tracking, no advertising.

First run

A fresh install starts with a tile for lunarkbot.dev and a "Follow lunarkbot" folder with the developer's profiles on Threads, Bluesky and X, plus a small welcome card. Remove them whenever you like.

Permissions

Storage, for your tiles and settings, and context menus, for the "lunarkbot Start" items when you right-click a tile. No access to the websites you visit, your tabs, history or bookmarks.
