    • Fixed unread count accuracy: Now uses items.length as fallback when API returns unread: 0 but email items exist
    • Badge persistence: Badge state now properly persists across service worker restarts
    • Improved badge visibility: Added white badge text color for better readability on colored backgrounds

    Authentication & Error Handling
    • Enhanced auth error detection: Properly distinguishes between:
    • First-time setup (shows orange warning badge)
    • Token revocation/expiry (shows red error badge)
    • Fixed popup behavior: Popup no longer displays cached emails when authentication errors occur
    • Notification race condition fix: State is now saved before notification logic to prevent race conditions
