About this extension
Media Guard helps you control images, audio, video, and embedded media on the websites you choose.
Media Guard stores its settings locally in your Firefox profile. The extension does not send your settings or browsing history to an external server.
Website interfaces and media players vary and can change. Some controls or embedded players may not be recognized on every website. Image-protection features are best-effort and cannot prevent screenshots, browser developer tools, external applications, or access through links that have already been shared.
Media Guard is a browser extension, not a system-wide content filter. Its protection applies within Firefox and cannot prevent users from disabling or removing the extension through browser management tools.
- Selective media blocking: Block images, audio, and video separately for each website.
- Flexible website rules: Apply rules to a specific page, a section of a website, an entire website, or the website and its related addresses.
- Embedded media controls: Configure rules for supported embedded video players without necessarily blocking the same service when opened in a separate tab.
- Custom profiles: Create and configure your own sets of media rules.
- Optional schedules: Create up to 15 schedules with different days, times, websites, and media categories. Permanent rules take priority over scheduled rules.
- Playback controls: Attempt to stop existing media playback, prevent autoplay, mute audio, or hide blocked media.
- Image protection: Optional controls attempt to hide or block recognized download, sharing, copy-link, and open-original actions on supported websites.
- Password-protected settings: Protect configuration changes, manage access limits, and optionally use temporary settings lockouts.
- Backup and restore: Export settings and restore them later.
- Seven interface languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, French, and Russian.
