Privacy policy for Minimal Network: YouTube Themes, No Shorts, No Ads
Minimal Network: YouTube Themes, No Shorts, No Ads by Volk
Privacy policy
Short version: the extension runs on two sites, reads nothing you write or watch, and sends no page content anywhere. The long version is below, permission by permission.
Single purpose
Minimal Network hides distracting interface elements on YouTube and X (Twitter) and restyles what remains. Every permission it holds exists to serve that one purpose.
Where it runs
Content scripts are declared for youtube.com, x.com and twitter.com only. The extension has no access to any other site, no activeTab permission, no tabs permission, and no way to read a page you have open in another tab.
What it stores, and where
Data Where it lives Why
Your switches and theme chrome.storage.sync, mirrored to local So the same setup follows your Chrome profile
Licence state chrome.storage.local A licence unlocks one browser, so it never syncs
Installation id (random UUID) chrome.storage.local What a licence key is bound to. Reinstalling mints a new one
Analytics client id (random) chrome.storage.local Only used if analytics are on. Not linked to any identity
Public IP (when analytics are on) chrome.storage.local / session, for a few hours So country in Google Analytics does not need a lookup on every event. Cleared if you turn analytics off and wait, or remove the extension
None of these contain page content, browsing history, video titles, post text, search terms, or anything you typed.
What leaves your browser
Two destinations, and nothing else. There is no third-party ad network, no session recorder, no error-reporting service and no remotely loaded code anywhere in the extension.
api.minnet.tech
The licence server. It is contacted when you buy Pro, activate a key, or when the background alarm re-checks that an existing key is still valid — and, if analytics are on, once in a while to read your public IP so Google Analytics can show a country. It receives the licence key, the random installation id, that IP (not stored), and — if you choose to type one at checkout — an email address for the receipt. It never receives a URL you visited.
It is also what starts the free day of Pro, once per computer. To recognise a computer that has already had its day, the extension sends a one-way hash of a description of the machine — processor core count, graphics chip, which common fonts are installed, time zone and browser language. The description itself never leaves the browser and cannot be recovered from the hash. The server keeps the hash, a keyed hash of the IP the trial was started from, and sets one cookie on api.minnet.tech holding the trial's id. None of it is used for anything else or shared with anyone.
If analytics are on, the same usage events described under Google Analytics are sent here too, so that we can read our own numbers without depending on Google's reports. The server turns the address the request came from into a country code and discards the address; it keeps a keyed hash of the analytics client id, never the id itself.
About once a day, and after you change a setting, it also receives a description of how the extension is set up: which of its switches are on, and which theme, layout and backdrop that ship with it are chosen. Every value is on, off or one fixed word from the extension's own list. Anything of yours is only the word "own" — never the colours you mixed, your picture or the name the page greets you by. Of the elements you hid with the picker it says only whether there are none, a few or many, not which or on which sites. This description goes to our server alone, never to Google. With the checkbox off, none of this is sent.
Google Analytics 4 — optional
Off with one checkbox under About, and when it is off nothing is sent at all. When it is on, the events are which screen you opened (welcome page, popup tab), which switch you flipped, the plan (free or pro), the browser UI language, the extension version, and your public IP so the reports can show a country. The IP is sent only as a geolocation hint — it is not stored as a dimension and is not used for advertising. No page URLs you visit, no page content, no advertising identifiers.
Permissions, one by one
Permission What it is for
storage Keeping your switches, theme and licence state
alarms A periodic, low-frequency re-check that a Pro licence is still valid, and — with analytics on — sending the description of your settings a minute after you change one
youtube.com · x.com · twitter.com The pages the extension edits. Without these it does nothing
api.minnet.tech Licence checkout, activation, validation, and (if analytics are on) the optional usage events and a public-IP lookup for country in GA
google-analytics.com Optional usage events and, for country in the reports, the public IP. Unused when the checkbox is off
Selling data
Data is never sold, rented, brokered or transferred to third parties, and is never used for advertising, credit assessment or lending. The extension's only revenue is the one-time $5 Pro payment.
This website
minnet.tech counts its own page views and sets no cookie to do it. Each page sends one small request to api.minnet.tech with the page's path, the address of the page that linked to it, the browser's language, and — when it happens — that a Download button was pressed. The server reads a country from the connection and does not store the address. A visitor is told apart from another only by a keyed hash of address and browser that is re-made every day, so a visit cannot be linked to one the day before, or to a person. Nothing is shared with anyone, and no third-party script runs on the site. A browser that sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control is not counted at all.
Deleting everything
Uninstalling removes every local and synced value the extension created. To drop the licence binding without uninstalling, use Remove licence from this browser under About — the key is then free to activate elsewhere. To have a purchase record erased from the licence server, ask through the contact address on this domain and reference the key.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the date at the top of the page and in the extension's store listing before the version that makes them ships.
