Reviews for OneTab

by Wavemaker, 4 years agoThis is one of my all time favourite addons, so it was with horror and dismay, after it having worked without a hitch since the day I installed it, I awoke one day to a totally blank OneTab page staring back at me with terse and cold indifference. The "OMFG, no, no, no, no, NO, this can't be happening!!" factor was real!!
But! Having regularly taken advantage of the backup option, I was somewhat hopeful I could fix things and lose only a couple of days worth of new tabs. Unfortunately though, no amount of disabling/re-enabling or uninstalling/re-installing could bring back the last tabbed days of my online life. Then, having nothing to lose, I decided to revert to an older version as suggested by a user further down the comment line:

Oh blessed be!! It's back! It's all back! I could hardly believe it! Whew! Cheers of joy, high fiving myself (and the cat) and a couple of woop woops broke the tense and mournful atmosphere and I was back in business, baby! :) (Shout out to Keegan Witt for the link to the old version. Thank you, my friend! Thank you!)
So... Despite the heart attack-inducing shock of potentially having lost all that was dear to me (tab-wise anyway) I am giving this addon 4 stars. When it works, it works like a dream, so I won't punish the team who made this otherwise brilliant addon by giving a lower score, because do you know what? Sometimes, shit happens. Yup, sometimes it just happens, even to the best of us. The fatal errors in the new version are most certainly not done intentionally and I feel a great deal of compassion and empathy for the poor developer/s who are maybe having a minor heart attack of their own, sleepless nights and they're probably (hopefully) working feverishly in a panicked sweat to fix whatever went wrong and get things back on track. I just can't bring myself to jump on any "cancel culture" bandwagon and diss or abandon this addon after all it has done for me, and besides, I am hopeful there'll be fix soon.
So, to keep this review short, (Yikes! Too late!) I still request a donate button somewhere on the OneTab page and I will be thankful and grateful and happy for having this FREE addon available to me. When it works, it's a little piece of heaven.
So as I said, 4 stars it is, and now I'll be off. I have some more tab-hoarding to do....
Rant over.
Edit (a couple of days later): I'm upgrading my rating to five stars. Turns out all the blame for the temporary malfunctioning of the addon lies with Mozilla and not the OneTab addon. Installed the latest fix and everything's back in perfect working order.

Developer response
posted 4 years agoHi, sorry about this. We've been working with Mozilla all morning to resolve this. Mozilla have confirmed it was due to a bug in Firefox (related to extension permissions downgrades).
To fix OneTab, just go to “about:addons” in your Firefox address bar, click the ‘cog’ icon in the top right, and click ‘Check for updates’. This will upgrade you to OneTab v1.39, which fixes the issue.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14179340, 14 days agoI am absolutely done with this add-on. It works great, until it doesn't. For the fourth or fifth time now, over the course of the last year or two, I click on one-tab only to discover that all the tabs I have been saving for the past few months--all the organization and labeling--they're all gone. As if I'm starting from scratch again. I'm so frustrated. There has to be a program with this convenience that doesn't screw me over entirely in the end.

- Rated 1 out of 5by LIVE_Dev, 19 days agoI added this extension to move my tabs from Chrome to Firefox. I shared the tabs from a Chrome window in a webpage. I do not see a way to "Restore" the tab list to a window in Firefox without opening each of them individually.

- Rated 1 out of 5by tcbbd, 23 days agoTried this on a fresh profile. Very stupid behaviors:
- Click the OneTab button, it will close all tabs, thus the name OneTab. But I usually just want to stash one or several tabs, not all. To achieve this, I must right click. Very annoying.
- When you open a session, it will load all the tabs at the same time. NO! They should be in dicarded state, and load on demand.
So my conclusion is, I will not use this addon. - Rated 1 out of 5by OzMerry, 23 days agoFor those who have lost tabs, I discovered that selecting Exit from the hamburger menu instead of X (close) avoided loss of tabs. Also, if X is clicked by mistake, I found that restarting my laptop (or possibly just closing Firefox and reopening it, I'm not sure) restored the tabs I had open.
When first opening Firefox, a succession of several sessions, one with only 1 tab and others with a group of tabs, rapidly appear before displaying just one session with the right group of tabs. I'm now going to disable this add-on and stick with Firefox's "open previous windows and tabs" option.
Edit: The behaviour above (2nd paragraph) still happens even after disabling the add-on, both with X (close) and Exit. AND this edit paragraph is missing (despite definitely clicking Update review) if closing with X!! - Rated 5 out of 5by Faith, a month agoThis extension is superb on a PC!
Pros:
* Saves tabs for easy access later
* Can import/export tabs for use on another device
* This extension doesn't scrape and sell your data AFIK
Cons:
* Currently on Android Firefox some features such as adding current tab or just one page at a time don't seem to be available, but I know this scenario is probably kind of rare.
* Firefox on Android currently doesn't let OneTab save inactive tabs, so you have to open those tabs to make them active and then save to OneTab
I love the pros enough that I'm ok with the cons and can just work around them. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18817713, a month ago
