About this extension
OutClip saves the page you are reading into your own self-hosted Outline — as clean Markdown, with the full text, not just what you highlighted.
WHAT IT DOES
• Full text, not fragments. OutClip uses Defuddle, the same extraction library behind the official Obsidian Web Clipper, with around 25 site-specific readers. Navigation, ads and comment sections are left behind.
• Pick where it lands. Choose the collection and, if you like, the document to nest it under — from the actual tree in your Outline. You can create a new collection right there, and the last place you used is preselected next time.
• Images become yours. Your Outline server fetches each image itself and keeps its own copy — no image data passes through the extension. Anything it cannot reach stays as a link to the source.
• The source is noted at the top. The first line of every new document names the page: title, address and the day you saved it. You can switch it off in the settings.
• Append to an existing document. Find the target by title (Outline's search); the last five are quick picks. The clip lands at the end with a divider and a heading that carries its title.
• Edit before you save. Fix the title, trim the Markdown, then send it.
• Selection only, if that is all you want.
• Nothing is lost. Close the window by accident and your work is still there when you come back — along with the message you would otherwise have missed.
• Remembers what you've already saved. A page you saved before says so next time. That list stays in your browser.
• No mouse needed: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + O opens OutClip, Ctrl/Cmd + Enter saves.
• German and English, following your browser's language.
WITH A LICENCE
• A picture of the page, scrolled and stitched, attached to the document. Up to twenty screen heights.
• Recipes as recipes. On pages with recipe data (schema.org) OutClip builds a document of its own: photo, key facts, ingredients as a checklist, numbered steps and nutrition.
• Multiple Outline servers. One profile per server (name, address, its own API token), switchable from the popup.
• Rules per site. One rule per domain (subdomains included) preselects profile, collection and, if you like, a fixed target document. Everything stays editable before saving.
WHERE YOUR DATA GOES
To the Outline address you entered yourself, and only over HTTPS (plain http:// is accepted only for localhost, 127.0.0.1 and ::1 on your own machine). Nowhere else. There is no vendor server, no analytics, no telemetry. OutClip asks for access to your Outline address only — not to the web at large — and it asks when you connect, not when you install.
The one exception is a licence: if you enter a key, OutClip sends the key, an activation id and a device name to Polar (api.polar.sh), the seller, to check it. By default that happens every three days; in the options you can turn the automatic check off, and then it happens only when you press "Check again". In Firefox you are asked first. No page content ever goes to Polar.
REQUIREMENTS
Your own Outline instance, reachable over HTTPS (or on localhost), and a personal API token from Settings → API Keys. Tested against Outline 1.7.1, 1.10.1 and 1.12.0; anything in between should work.
