- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 12255223, 2 days agoI found that this add-on interfered with several websites that I used regularly. One was the Washington Post site. Also NYTimes and IMDB. When I turned off PopUpOFF, things on these sites went back to normal.
I can't say that this app is the only contributor to my problems, as I have other add-on blockers installed as well. Also the problems I had with websites evolved over time, so there may have been contributing causes from website changes. But when I stopped this add-on, problems disappeared.
The developer responded that there was "confusion" about how the addon works. When I go to the Washington Post website with PopUpOff installed, the entire page fails to show up. Then I halt the addon, and the Post page goes back to normal. That not confusion about how the addon works.
I appreciate those who develop addons. I use a bunch of them. Some just don't work, at least not on my browser. My review noted the possibility of other causes of interference. I gave a balanced review of my experience. It's not confusion.Developer response

This is what it does on purpose :) I think there was a confusion about how it works. Thanks for taking your time to review it! - Rated 5 out of 5by 退出党团队远离中共邪教, 4 days ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18488123, 7 days agoI've been using this extension for close to 3 months now, I've been meaning to write a review but had forgotten my moz login so kept forgetting to leave one.
I initially only installed this extension while I was working on a research project and some of the obscure independent websites I was navigating to kept accosting me with screaming newsletter notifications that I was sick of (despite never having used their website once in my life outside this occasion lol). I'm so happy with how well it's been working thus far and how far it's exceeded my expectations! Thanks to this extension, I never- and I mean never- have to deal with the awful "wE cArE aBoUt YoUr PriVaCy" boxes that ironically demand you allow the "legitimate interest" of 467 of their ad partners to track you. And while I've never trusted the I Don't Care About Cookies extension because all it really does is push the accept button for you, afaik PopUpOff does not do this! It literally just gets rid of the annoying box/content wall that I'd ordinarily spend 2-3 minutes manually doing myself with the uBlock element picker (and everytime I needed to refresh the page...) So thank you very much for ridding me of this constant headache!
In terms of 'breaking websites' and usability, the only website that I've found myself constantly running into trouble and being reminded I have the extension installed is Reddit. It's their awful damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't UI and I've stuggled at times to get it to display regular content while removing all the interstitial junk. However, after extensive tinkering I've found it functions best on Moderate. If I'm wanting to click on and view photos however I usually have to turn it off. Beyond that I keep it on Aggressive for almost every website, sometimes I'll need to switch to Delicate if I notice a search bar that should be at the header is missing (like streaming sites etc).
All and all, I would say along with Dark Reader and uBlock Origin, this is one of the most valuable extensions I currently have. Absolutely fantastic job, and I love your website as well. Very clean design and I hope more people take a second to check it out! Thanks again for making this available for free to us, I'll try to make a donation if I can in the future!Developer response
posted 6 days agothanks a lot, I appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed review :)
donations are helpful but don't worry too much about it, it's not the reason I work for. Enjoy! - Rated 5 out of 5by Jedi Knight, 9 days agoAfter trying about half a dozen extensions this one actually works!!! Thank you so much. Definitely will have to send a donation for sure.

- Rated 1 out of 5by ShibePatrol, 4 months agoThe addon works just fine, but when you go to uninstall it, it spams you with requests for feedback. I absolutely loathe software that acts in such a sleazy, spammy way. I'd not use it again for this reason.

posted 4 months agosorry to hear that it "spammed" you, it should only ask once and thanks for bringing this up, I will definitely check it - Rated 5 out of 5by hkpd, 4 months ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by MuntedMunkeh, 4 months agoEven when turned OFF, it still nukes site functionality. When turned OFF it prevents essential site pop ups like the repost options on twitter for eg. NB: it is not the only site it cripples when turned OFF, only the most recent example that prompted me to write this and delete the extension.
There is no point having an extension I have to constantly monitor to enable and disable the entire time I am browsing just to prevent a mild annoyance. That is more of an aggravation and hindrance to what I'm doing than the actual problem it is was made to "fix."
Maybe an update that isn't over a year old might help.Developer response
posted 4 months agoI'm sorry you didn't have a nice experience with PopUpOFF. It is indeed not for everybody as it states in the description:
"Drawbacks?
- It still is in development, so there could be bugs or imperfect solutions, I’m working on it solo and there are other things in the world to do. So be gentle, I created it for myself back then, but now I’m doing it for you."
Given that twitter is a pretty popular site and you're the first one to report the issue which cannot be reproduced by me or neither browser, I give you 99.99% that it was something else that was working poorly on your setup. Also I wrote the code and "turn off" means turn off, it just doesn't work. Developer response
posted 4 months agoyou can set "turn off" mode by default and enable it only on websites where it's needed. I'm working on reducing number of issues with services like twitch, google or facebook- Rated 4 out of 5by islisis, 4 months agoI rely on this add on, however usability took a tumble when the keyboard shortcut stopped working on my environment (haven't been able to debug it). It would be fantastic if the shortcut could be customised to avoid such issues!
- Rated 1 out of 5by DrChefphd, 5 months agoVery weird behavior by the developer all over this page, touting good reviews that aren't real and accusing people reporting bugs as shills.
