- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 6126471, 7 years agoExtremely useful, if one wants to keep a "soft-copy in time" of a certain page without the clutter around. Formatting features allow text to be well presented, too.

but you must first learn how can you use it - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13407172, 7 years agoHi there, I have loved this plugin up to now, unfortunately currently not working since WE updates. Now sluggish takes long long time to load. And save options now there is no way to load information with styles. I use to love how I could set all the styles and take out all the fluff then purge all into one html or pdf. All formatting was kept, now I can not capture css at all, only shows without css when print edit. Also in sav. I have latest firefox portable, only other plugin is Add Blocker Plus Legacy. I tested options as well.
Hope this helps as I would love old functionality back! Truly excellent, I have used it for the past year and I say genius plugin! Even though its currently broken for me I still give 5 stars for all your efforts! I Really Really Appreciate it :-) MK - Rated 5 out of 5by drkenrich, 7 years agoI give it 5 stars because I LOVE this add-on. Unfortunately, the upgrade to WE doesn't work for me. I'm still at FF 54 because of the most recent version doesn't use any of the add-ons I need.
Now this one lets me edit and format about the same as before, but when I hit Preview it goes straight to print and prints blank pages. Please help get it working again for me.
EDIT:
Took quite awhile, but finally got it working. Had to go to 56, turn off Prep, and still can't find Fix Page Breaks. Oh,, well. I'll take what I can get.Developer response
posted 7 years agoThe 'Fix Page Breaks' command has been added in Print Edit WE 21.0. - Rated 5 out of 5by flosommerfeld, 7 years agoThank for turning this into a WebExtension! Print Edit really helps me out to remove some annoying sections from my printouts.

FF56.0.2
I was using printWE v19.4 and found a way to use on payment pages where a new 'tab' was not created, because a page refresh as part of loading new tab; many/most payment screens no longer display the payment (POST) information/conf number.
The workaround in 19.4 and earlier was to select print preview versus print edit (print edit loading a new tab). When in print preview I could select edit from the displayed toolbar and the edit screen would popup in same tab, that displays payment amounts and conf numbers.
Unfortunately, printWE20.0 calls a different print bar and entering back to edit mode from the new print bar is not possible, therefore, printWE20.0 is rendered useless for me, because direct selection of edit renders a new page (resulting in no payment information displayed) in a new tab, meaning all my payment information is lost.
I have my main machine that I updated to printWE20.0 and another machine, same OS/FF etc., that is still printWE19.4 and revert to edit is still available on it. Unfortunately, I can not use the machine with printWE19.4 (never upgraded to printWE20.0) for payments processing.
NOTE: I have tested printWE20.0 on 9 cc pmt sites with same result: if select 'print edit' (also true in 19.x) then new tab with refresh and screen displayed in that tab does not contain the pmt information (because of the refresh).
I tried a downgrade to printWE19.4 on the machine with printWE20.0, thinking the revert would bring back the needed print bar format, but even with 19.4 the print bar remains the same. Basically I can no longer clean up pages before saving to pdf, rendering printWE useless.
Is it possible to re-introduce the edit button on the print preview toolbar so that one may elect to enter edit again, without a new tab/refresh, so that one can edit pmt pages for banks, credit cards, etc?
For what it is worth; I also liked the select pdf tick box on prior versions to printWE20.0..to me the operation for pdf y/n branch was much easier.
Hopefully you can make corrective action or advise how I may cobble printWE20.0 to allow entry back to edit from print preview toolbar (or how to hack machine that was back rev to 19.4 to display old print bar...I poked around but have not fount where I can hack to get 19.4 back to the 'GoodBar'.
I give 5* because print and printWE have served me well in past but printWE20.0 fubars my ability to use. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13061321, 7 years agoWill those of you that gave 3 stars or less because this replacement doesn't meet the expectations you had, get a perspective!!
The guy had a brilliant solution. His solution was broken by Firefox's changes (again even Firefox is not to blame because they changed due to technology landscape change).
So what morons can not see the clear distinction that this is a different product and it is in its infancy. Start by being grateful that he's making a new product for you ingrate idiots. I'd say you have more brains than the average bear because you use Firefox but sadly various neurons in your brain are fairly damaged and you're unable to see the bigger/fuller picture of this situation.
You should all be ashamed and apologize and correct your ratings.
Other more intelligent users please see this rating and take a few seconds write your own. Hopefully a more thoughtful one thanking the guy for his efforts. He's not even asking for donations, for heavens' sake!!!
For all you whiners about more permissions, read his response. He has addressed it. Undo your stupid knee jerk reactions of ratings someone's community effort low because you're too lazy to ask or read.
I see other great plug-ins get slammed by idiots but I've tried to ignore... this one just took the cake in how many dumb and lazy ingrates actually wrote about it.
Mr. or Ms. Author of this plug-in, this is my way of saying thank you for your creation. I love the old version and I'm sure this one will be excellent soon. - Rated 5 out of 5by Larry, 7 years agoUsing the old Print Edit. Went to this due to Firefox screwing us over with their new code, making old add-ons incompatible. This new version is worthless. No edit capability I can find, which is the reason I added it in place of the old version which doesn't work like it used to. I have tried adding and deleting it several times, tried all combinations of options I can think of. If I allow "preparing" it locks up Firefox.
REVISED REVIEW AND RATING!!!
Received follow up info from developer and along with deleting another add-on that appears to have been interfering with Print Edit WE; there are a couple of non-intuitive things that have to happen. You MUST add the Print Edit WE icon to the toolbar. With the old Print Edit I went directly into Print Edit from Firefox Print Preview. With Print Edit WE you click the Print Edit WE icon. If you go to Print Edit WE Options and enable the “Skip prepare stage ...” option. It then goes directly into the edit mode in a new tab. If you don't enable that option, you have to click the Print Edit WE icon again when it changes to also say "EDIT". You will still be taken to a new tab. The Print Edit WE toolbar is now inside the tab window at the top. To print without this toolbar showing up in your print, click the Print Edit WE icon and the toolbar disappears.
Kudos to this developer for his help and assistance in leading me back to the functionality I was used to having. Print Edit was the easiest and best add-on I had found for use in Firefox. Print Edit WE matches up with the old Print Edit extremely well.
I use Print Edit WE to clean up articles and tips from woodworking web pages (and other sources) to create a pdf file using CutePDF Printer and to save these web pages to a folder without having the possibility of the web page being no longer available a few years later. I had had some web pages saved from probably ten years ago in an obsolete (?) format that was hard to open, and some I never could open..Developer response
posted 7 years agoPrint Edit WE has nearly all of the editing features of the original Print Edit.
If you disable the 'Skip prepare stage...' option, you will need to click on the toolbar button, and then (when the 'PREP' badge appears on the button) click the button again to start editing.
Please provide the following information:
- Which operating system are you using?
- Which version of Firefox are you using?
- Which other add-ons do you have installed?
Please e-mail this information to: dw-dev@gmx.com - Rated 5 out of 5by there.is.only.xul, 7 years agoWebExtensions is completely incompatible with most "Appearance" extensions (by design) and makes functionality enhancing ones like Print Edit practically start over from scratch to work around new restrictions. The few implementation options still available then get presented to users as "new" permissions that they must agree to. Never mind that the XUL version had MUCH more control over Firefox, yet nobody complained.
It makes sense that Print Edit WE makes a copy of the current page–so you don't have to refresh after saving or printing. The problem is that many sites get their content from AJAX and don't update the POST data correctly in PrintEdit's copy. This can probably be fixed if you are willing to share the details with the dev.
Frankly, I'm super impressed and amazed that DW-dev got Print Edit to work under WE at all. Extension developers like him tend to do this stuff in their spare time. The least you can do is bear with him during the transition. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13127959, 7 years agoWhat would we do without this Add-on? Print unwanted content...
- Rated 5 out of 5by lburg801, 7 years agoI am so grateful for the ability to save the cleaned up page as a PDF.
- Rated 5 out of 5by BrianA, 7 years agoMuch less intuitive than old version. I found left click on the icon seemed the easiest way to go. One problem I've not been able to solve is that the print preview and thus the printed version has the editing boxes across the top. (Select, Hide, Delete ....etc)
Edit: Tried it again and the boxes not there.
FF56.0 (64 bit) Rating 5* Thanks for rapid responseDeveloper response
posted 7 years agoIf you are using Firefox 55 or earlier, then the 'Preview' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar opens the 'Print' dialog, rather than switching to Firefox's print preview window. In this case, you will have to open Firefox's print preview window using 'File > Print Preview' on the Firefox main menu bar. Before doing that, click on the Print Edit WE button to suspend editing, and the Print Edit WE toolbar in the page will be hidden.
If you are using Firefox 56 or later, the the 'Preview' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar switches to Firefox's print preview window. - Rated 5 out of 5by Anup, 8 years agoI'm really counting down when mozilla share drops down from 6% to less than 1. They can shove v57 quantum up their aass.

This addon worked perfectly earlier (v56 n prev. v). Now not only it is unbearably slow starting up, it saves the webpage as corrputed pdfs.

REPLY TO DEV.:
I'm using Firefox 57.0b3 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Pro version 1703 build 15063. I've been a long-time user and fan of this addon and I'm doing exactly what you described but the saved page as pdf turns out to be a corrupted file such that Adobe Reader/Firefox/Chrome fails to open/read it.
Thank you for replying. You are a great dev and have been of great help all these years.Developer response
posted 8 years agoIf you use Print Edit WE 19.0 (or later version) with Firefox 56.0, then saving to PDF works correctly on Windows and Linux.
However, Mozilla have introduced a bug in Firefox 57 beta that prevents 'Save As PDF' working correctly.
There is now a fix in Nightly 58 that resolves this issue, and this fix should be uplifted to Firefox 57 beta before it is released. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13262784, 8 years agoI LOVE this extension. Still, here are two small bugs, which I noticed:
1) Before the bug: The webpage "begins" below the Print Edit Toolbar (when in edit mode) which is good so that the Print Edit Toolbar dos not cover the top part of the webpage. BUG: However, when I do a "delete except" then Print Edit Toolbar all of a sudden *does* cover the top of the page (the page kind of "slips" up under the toolbar at the top). All other editing actions (afai tried) did not make the toolbar cover the top of the resulting page.
2) When I do a print preview, I also get the print settings dialog, which is not needed at that point and only in the way of having a good look at the preview.Developer response
posted 8 years ago1) This bug is fixed in Print Edit WE 19.3.
2) The interfaces to allow switching directly into the Print Preview window are not available in Firefox 55.
There is an 'Important Notice' on the Print Edit WE homepage that describes how to display the Print Preview window when using Firefox 55 or earlier.
When Firefox 56 is released, the Print Preview window will be displayed when you click on the toolbar 'Preview' button. Also, when you click on the toolbar ‘Save’ button, there will be a ‘Save as PDF’ menu item.
So all of the functionality of the original Print Edit will then be available. - Rated 5 out of 5by hytron, 8 years agoAnd 'Print Edit WE' (e10 compatible) is a life saver!
User friendly, intiuitive addon. I use it to clear the cutter before saving web page as PDF (Adobe Acrobat)
Ability to use selectors, and even select multiple ones at once (using SHIFT) - is extraordinary! - Rated 5 out of 5by Mr. Curiosity, 8 years agoI like this add-on a lot as it helps me to collect and archive information from the web. It would be great if there is an option to have the title and the link of the original webpage as well as the timestamp of saving automatically inserted in the final saving html output. That will help a lot for the archiving purpose. Thank you.
