Privacy policy for PrismTab - New Tab Dashboard
PrismTab - New Tab Dashboard by PrismTab
1. Local-first architecture
PrismTab is entirely local. We do not track your browsing history, run background analytics, or collect telemetry. Your dashboard and its contents belong exclusively to you.
2. Data storage
All user configurations — including notes, tasks, calendar events, utilities data, weather locations, timers, layouts, and custom wallpapers — are saved directly into your browser's native IndexedDB and local storage APIs. Nothing leaves your device, and no data or analytics are ever collected.
3. External requests
PrismTab only makes network requests when absolutely necessary for the features and widgets you explicitly use:
- Weather Data: We query a weather provider to retrieve forecasts based on your selected city. No precise GPS coordinates are ever tracked or stored.
- Daily Content: Daily rotating wallpapers and quotes are securely fetched from our content delivery network. No personal data or identifiers are sent during these requests.
- Favicon Service: Bookmark icons are resolved through our own image service. Only the domain name is sent — never the full URL, your browsing history, or bookmark titles — and icons are cached locally.
- RSS Feeds: The extension fetches XML and publication data directly from the feed URLs you subscribe to. Article images are routed through an image optimization service to improve loading speeds and protect your IP address from third-party tracking.
4. Browser permissions
PrismTab operates with minimal privileges. Certain browser permissions are completely optional and strictly turned off by default. They are only requested when you manually enable specific features: the "Bookmarks" permission is asked only if you turn on two-way sync, and the "Access to all websites" permission is requested only if you actively subscribe to custom RSS feeds.
5. Full control
You own your data. You can open the settings pane at any time to export a full JSON backup of your dashboard, or permanently reset the extension to erase the local database.
