by Anstro Pleuton, a year agoCan't even select a server in free tier
I read through other reviews and stumbled across EnbyTea's review. This is exactly what my frustration is:
> free version is useless since you can't select countries in it anymore. If you're going to pay money for a VPN do it elsewhere.
The developer's response is also useless:
> The default auto-connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. That said, you still have the option to switch to another randomly allocated server by disconnecting and reconnecting again, or you can upgrade to connect to a specific server of your choice (["URLs are not allowed." says mozilla]).
If you are providing free version, do it right. This does not make any sense to just randomly connect to some random freaking server. You either make a really good free version or none at all. Everything in between will ALWAYS result in extremely terrible user experience. This is why, I will never be upgrading. I will just go ahead and find other extension for a better free experience.

posted a year agoOur mission is to make online privacy accessible to all, and that's why we offer a Free plan that costs $0. Our free VPN has no ads, no logs, and is as secure & private as our paid plans. It's made possible thanks to the support from our paid users, and NOT your data. With that in mind, certain features and functionalities are necessarily available only on our paid plans.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Davide, 11 hours ago1. Can not specify favorite countries. You have to search a list of 900 countries, even though everyone mostly only uses a handful of them.
2. Can not be enabled only for specific *containers* (to specied countries.)
This is also easily possible with other VPNs via the Mozilla Container extension, if you would have a SOCKS5 proxy address. to use with Proton...
Other than that, it works.Developer response

I constantly lose connection when trying to stream content on my browser. When I disconnect from the extension I have no connection issues. I have two server locations close to me and I try to switch when my connection slows down. But, this doesn't seem to help.

posted 7 hours agoSorry to hear that. Could you let us know which specific streaming services you're having trouble with? We have a support article where you can find all the streaming services that are officially supported at the moment (https://protonvpn.com/support/streaming-guide). Contact us with more details by clicking on Help in the Proton VPN extension, then selecting 'Contact us' so we can help. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 14184547, 3 days agoThis works well on desktop Firefox, but not mobile (I tried force enabling it, but it just gives permission errors so far — maybe I'll figure out it).

posted 7 hours agoThank you for your review. The browser extension is currently not officially supported on Firefox for mobile devices, however, we've passed on your feedback to the team for future consideration. In the meantime, you can download the native Proton VPN app for your platform at https://protonvpn.com/download. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14981827, 5 days ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by IsNotAYahoo, 6 days agoGreat VPN browser app, works out of the box on Mint Linux and Windows 11. Experience isn't as polished on Linux (yet), but updates are consistent and nothing breaks so I am happy. I could wish for finer exit server details presented in the web app, but if I am looking for something specific I can reference that information through the desktop app for now. I am looking forward to Proton's continuing development and success.

- Rated 3 out of 5by srickficture, 7 days agoThe Proton VPN extension is almost perfect, but on Firefox Linux, this thing just won't reconnect after coming back from sleep! Disconnecting and reconnecting hangs, and that gets nowhere, but disabling and re-enabling the extension makes everything work. Proton is a great VPN with a lot of extra functionality, but this extension needs a bit more polish.

- Rated 4 out of 5by kire, 8 days agoIt would be nice if there was a way to pin certain countries/location to the top of the list, or if the extension remembered the last few countries you used.
Otherwise, great extension.Developer response

posted 13 days agoThat's not right. We do have a free plan that costs $0 and allows you to secure your internet connection with no ads, no logs, and provides the same level of privacy and security as our paid plans. Anyone can sign up for our free plan, and we don't ask for any payment details during signup (https://protonvpn.com/free-vpn). You can navigate to https://protonvpn.com/support/browser-extensions for more details on how to use the Proton VPN browser extension.
That said, some features are available exclusively on our paid plans so as to achieve a balance between offering a free service and providing added benefits to our paid subscribers. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19482425, 16 days ago
