I read through other reviews and stumbled across EnbyTea's review. This is exactly what my frustration is:
> free version is useless since you can't select countries in it anymore. If you're going to pay money for a VPN do it elsewhere.
The developer's response is also useless:
> The default auto-connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. That said, you still have the option to switch to another randomly allocated server by disconnecting and reconnecting again, or you can upgrade to connect to a specific server of your choice (["URLs are not allowed." says mozilla]).
If you are providing free version, do it right. This does not make any sense to just randomly connect to some random freaking server. You either make a really good free version or none at all. Everything in between will ALWAYS result in extremely terrible user experience. This is why, I will never be upgrading. I will just go ahead and find other extension for a better free experience.Developer response
posted 9 months agoOur mission is to make online privacy accessible to all, and that's why we offer a Free plan that costs $0. Our free VPN has no ads, no logs, and is as secure & private as our paid plans. It's made possible thanks to the support from our paid users, and NOT your data. With that in mind, certain features and functionalities are necessarily available only on our paid plans. Developer response

posted 10 months agoThat doesn't sound right. Connection speeds can be influenced by numerous factors such as your native ISP speed, location, server load, network setup, etc. You could try some of the tips at https://protonvpn.com/support/increase-vpn-speeds to improve your connection speeds. If the issue persists, contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support-form so we can assist you further. Developer response
posted 10 months agoWe're sorry about that. Unfortunately, Russia is one of the restrictive countries that are blocking VPN connections, which is the reason you're experiencing this issue. Our team is working hard on improving our infrastructure and our protocols so that all our users are able to connect. We will continue to make more improvements to enhance service availability despite the ongoing blocking attempts.- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18562084, 10 months ago

Не работает на ПК, ни с приложения ни с браузера. В том числе и с платных серверов.Developer response

- Rated 1 out of 5by Badaboom, a year ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by R3D_S3C, a year agoI've used Proton VPN for a long time and I've never encountered a bigger pile of hot garbage, than this ridiculous extension. Works when and IF it wants to. More headache than protection.

posted a year agoHello,
I would recommend to download the desktop application instead in such case, you can do it from GitHub which hopefully shouldn't be geo-blocked:
Windows: github.com/ProtonVPN/win-app/releases
macOS: github.com/ProtonVPN/ios-mac-app/releases
Linux: should be available via apt, yum, etc. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18645604, a year agoскачайте дополнение, чтоб начать пользоваться нужно зайти на сайт.. который БЛОКИРОВАН без vpn. Умора... и 1 звезда (((

Also glitches out and asks me to update right after the installation, with no updtae available.Developer response
posted a year agoHello,
I'm sorry to hear. We are rather limited by the browser capabilities. If the ISP or country you're browsing from is blocking our domain, we cannot establish to connection to it in the first place.
I suspect the update issue is also related to some sort of firewall. If you contact contact@protonvpn.com or support@protonvpn.zendesk.com and provide the version of the browser extension you're using, from where you got it and the country/ISP you're from, we can try to find ways to circumvent it.
A screenshot of the prompt you get and HAR export of the browser extension network traffic may also help to find out if you can provide it also.
Please note that Proton also has a client that you can install on your device wich is more efficient in countries with anti-VPN filtering rules. - Rated 1 out of 5by edenflare, a year agoUndecided, I was wondering if there is a way to have split tunneling with just 1 tab on my firefox? So let's say I want Xbox website to see that I'm from USA but all my other tabs I want normal ISP service from UK, is that possible?
This doesn't seem to let me connect to USA, it's fixed to netherlands... Developer response
