Preview of Qotter Copy & Show

Qotter Copy & Show by Sebastian Neuhaus

Puts a text into a link. If you click such a link, it selects and higlights the text. Very handy if you want to show a certain text from a website to somebody.

About this extension
Qotter Copy&Show
lets you select some text on a webpage and send this selection to someone.

Like this, for example

Usage:

You have selected some text on a webpage. Now you turn this selection into a link by
- pressing CTRL+ALT+C or
- clicking the symbol with the yellow highlight or
- a right mouse button click that opens the context menu and selecting "Create Copy & Show Link"

An animation of the qotter symbol confirms that the link is copied to the clipboard. You can paste this link into any document by pressing CTRL+V or RMB -> paste, just as you are used to.

If you click on such a link, the browser will open the according page and select the exact passage you had selected initially.

Because these links tend to be very long, with the RMB you can select the function "Create HTML Link". In a html document such a link will be displayed much prettier, for example:
<a href ="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marker_pen#:~:text=Highlighters%20are%20a%20form%20of%20marker%20used%20to%20highlight%20and%20cover%20over%20existing%20writing%20while%20still%20leaving%20the%20writing%20readable.">en.wikipedia: Highlighters are a...</a>

in an html document will be shown as en.wikipedia: Highlighters are a...

This web extension uses an idea by Gervase Markham.
Developer comments
Known Issues:
  • Doesn't work on "addons.mozilla.org". This is because AMO is a software distibution site that has special security demands.
  • Doesn't copy separate texts, e.g. in lists. This is due to the browsers search function, which doesn't neither.
  • Doesn't work in pdf documents.
