About this extension
RSVP Reader is a high-performance speed-reading extension that displays one word at a time using the Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) technique — the same method used by speed-reading research applications. By eliminating eye movement across lines, you can read articles 2–3× faster with full comprehension.

How It Works
Click the RSVP Reader icon on any article page, choose your speed and theme, and click Start Reading. The page fades and words stream one at a time through a clean overlay. Press Space to begin, and Escape to close — the page automatically scrolls back to where you left off.

Key Features
Smart Content Extraction Uses the same Readability engine that powers Firefox Reader View to strip ads, navigation menus, and sidebars. Only the article text is read. If you highlight text before starting, only your selection is read.

Paywall Preloader On sites with soft paywalls (where the article loads first and the paywall overlay appears after), the extension silently captures the article text at page load, before the paywall activates. Your reading is never blocked.

Optimal Recognition Point (ORP) Each word is rendered with one letter highlighted in orange at approximately 35% from the left — the optimal position for fast recognition. Your eyes lock to this point, eliminating subvocalization.

Natural Punctuation Pauses The engine adds accurate pauses after sentence endings (., !, ?) and shorter pauses after commas and semicolons. Paragraph breaks add a longer pause. These pauses feel like natural speech rhythm without inflating your total reading time.

Precise WPM Accuracy Built on a requestAnimationFrame delta-time engine. Unlike setTimeout-based readers that drift on heavy or throttled sites, this engine guarantees exactly your chosen WPM on every website.

Reading Position Saved Your position in every article is saved automatically. Close and reopen the reader on the same article to resume where you left off.

Keyboard Controls

Space — Play / Pause
↑ / ↓ — Adjust speed ±50 WPM
Shift + ↑ / ↓ — Move the word vertically on screen
Shift + ← / → — Move the word horizontally on screen
← / → — Jump back / forward 10 words
+ / - — Increase or decrease text size
Escape — Close and scroll to current position
Three Themes Light, Dark, and Sepia — your preference is saved across sessions.

Privacy
This extension collects zero user data. Everything is stored locally on your device using Firefox's browser.storage.local API. No analytics, no telemetry, no external servers.

Privacy Policy (paste into AMO "Privacy Policy" field)
RSVP Reader does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. All settings (WPM, theme, reading position) are stored locally in your Firefox browser using the browser.storage.local API and never leave your device. The extension makes one external network request per reading session to load the Readability.js article-parsing library from unpkg.com — no user data is sent in this request.
