- Rated 1 out of 5by SedUz, a month agoAbsolute rubbish. I had to disable 30 good firefox security extensions to find out this one causes to brake addons.mozilla.org rating functionality. And it was impossible to see this from scriptsafe-ff extension menu!
I am removing this extension, useless and harmful - brakes sites, impossible to quickly find out and fix it. Can't be used. Don't waste time on this. - Rated 5 out of 5by Stewart Daniels, a year agoWhen I found this addon long ago, I felt that it must be from the future. So much so, I never stopped using ScriptSafe, even after it was no longer maintained.
For years.
And I was willing/waiting for any security issue that may arise by manually installing a dead plugin. It was that good!
Luckily, no threats ever appeared.
Today I stumbled across your updated Scriptsafe ...and I freaked the #@$% out!
Thank You, Thank You, a million times...Thank You for your work on this project Mr. Adeliktas!
I finally can retire ScriptSafe 1098.
Oh, and it works perfectly for me. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17867194, 2 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Cirnos, 2 years agoPlease update the description, and also say that it's as advanced as the NoScript extension
- Rated 2 out of 5by TELLALL4ALL, 2 years ago12-17-22: new author has made some improvements. Now saves your settings between browser reloads so you don't have to load again and again. Some sites have cracked it such that it does not show what they are using to profile you and bypasses it's protections, but only found a couple that do that. Most will just lock you out until you uncloak so they can profile and ID you. What is really needed is an add on that successfully spoofs all the javascripts they use to profile and IDentify you As of now, nothing like that. Chameleon does it somewhat but not convinced it really does the job. This profiling of browsers is not far off from getting your actual ID since they can identify you by the browser you are using.
New "developer" screwed up the config file save on this addon which now reports error messages because he did not do the right coding. No good documentation to teach you what to block to avoid being blocked/tracked.
No good explaination of the often cryptic settings. Slow to load on older machines. Does not maintain settings on some browsers. Does show you how intrusive and tracking some pages are. Google and facebook are connecting everwhere. Some pages you have to disable it completely to get them to load properly. - Rated 3 out of 5by HonestReviews, 3 years ago11-25--22: what is needed is an addon that SUCCESSFULLY fakes working javascript and subsitutes random false values. None of them do that, this one included. They site will just block you until you submit to their spyware-identify you javasscript. Some sites are making it impossible to use this addone to granular change which js variables are allowed and they do not give back info on which js variables they are identifying you with with this addon. It's bric a brac and doesn't really do much but allow sites to block you because no javascript. Too much trouble to change settings have to load cfg file each time. Not a good user manual to tell you which variables you can SUCCESSFULLY block. No updated list of user agents to select from.
8-1-22: new "developer" messed up the safe config function such that saved config files now give error messages and you have to manually check each config file to make sure it's doing what you THINK it's doing. SLOWWWWW to load painfully slow.
A good extension to see how just about every site is phoning home to facebook, google and so many others trying to id and track you. Can't maintain settings on chrome based epic browser-have to be reset every time you load the browser. No good instruction manual or information requires nerdy coding and web developer knowledge to use it properly-not everyone is a coder. SLOW to load, waiting to configure it. Cannot choose folder for saving configurations for future use. Maybe the new developer can help this extension. User needs more information on what all these spyware connections mean and which ones must be blocked. Help! - Rated 2 out of 5by USER-EXPERIENCEONLY, 3 years agoupdate:
Too much trouble to use it. too many settings and no instructions on which ones will break a site. can't keep it's settings on epic browser. Doesn't seem to keep it's settings even when you save them. Does not openly report on all blocked scripts, you have to click again on the blocked items to see what scripts are doing the blocking. With some websites the scripts are encoded such that you cannot determine what they are doing, what they are asking for. You must click a second time on the blocked generic to even see that there are scripts there trying to get info on your browser. Does not good though because the scripts are packed and you can't see what they are after. Many sites you must disable it entirely or they simply won't load. Not enough instruction, no manual to guide you to determine what to allow and what to remain blocked in order to load the page yet not let them PROFILE and uniquely identify you and your browser. We need an add on that spoofs our profile without blocking the site.
Been using it both mostly on chrome but now available on ffox. Slow to load. Cannot keep setting depending on the browser so you have to reset everything when starting the browser. No user manual, you have to be a coder or computer nerd freak to figure out which settings to use and , will block ur site access. Impossible to use on sites that keep adding scripts as you go, unless you set them to trust which will destroy the purpose of the add on to begin with. It does seem to work, blocked this review login several times. Takes too much time to configure it. Would be helpful if developer made a manual that told user how to tailor it to certain websites that are privacy invasive. Doesn't alert you if you forget to enable the addon, so you expose yourself w/out warning. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 15056452, 3 years agoNot for the average user, but it allows complete control over JS execution like the original extension. Unfortunately cloud sync doesn't works, but everything else does.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Maleficient, 3 years agoCan you give an explanation of what this extension does ?
At the time of writing, there is no indication of this !
===============================================
The answer is : « scramble to know ! »
Creating an extension and giving no explanation of what it does, inviting guesses, is surprising.
Since this is a reworking of someone else's work, a fork then, this is what the original author says :
https://www.andryou.com/scriptsafe/changelog
An extension that gives users control of the web and more secure browsing while emphasizing simplicity and intuitiveness :
- whitelisting/blacklisting functionality and granular control
- protection against fingerprinting (e.g. canvas)
- protect against WebRTC leaks
- automatic auto-syncing of settings AND whitelist/blacklists across your devices (via Google Sync)
- actually speeds up browsing because it blocks a lot of unwanted content from being downloaded
- remove : SCRIPT ; OBJECT ; EMBED ; IFRAME ; FRAME ; APPLET ; AUDIO ; VIDEO ; NOSCRIPT ; and IMG elements, as well as webbugs.
- block unwanted content (MVPS HOSTS, hpHOSTS (ad / tracking servers only), Peter Lowe's HOSTS Project, MalwareDomainList.com, and DNS-BH – Malware Domain Blocklist are integrated !)
- block click-through referrer data
- spoof referrer/user-agent/timezone data
- block unwanted cookies
- "intuitive" icon that changes based on whether or not a page is whitelisted/blacklisted/bypassed
- shows number of blocked/removed items in toolbar
- shows blocked/allowed items in tab details popup (along with item type)
- bulk import domains into whitelist and blacklist
- option to temporarily allow a page/temporarily allow all blocked items
- choose the default mode (Block All or Allow All)
- option to preserve same-domain elements
- option to disable automatic refresh of pages after whitelisting/blacklisting/temp. bypassing a page
- support for IPv6 addressesDeveloper response
posted 3 years agoThanks for compiling/copying the information out of Changelog June 30, 2016.
Unfortunately your Text is partly wrong, probably through using outdated information or misinterpretation.
Those features are mostly optional and the optional Sync uses Firefox sync as for the storage.sync API. (This Addon Version is currently only maintained for Firefox Browser) You are also welcome to have a in depth look at the actual source code provided on github and as linked on this page for future references.
