by Sa Ahm, 3 years ago'Search by Image' extension used to be and still is a fantastic extension, so truly thanks to the Developer for all their hardword, and Firefox too for it; still 5-star for that. But now it's asking for 'Mandatory Clipboard Permission' [i.e. not Optional].
I know the github explanation says it already has access to ALL data on ALL websites, so not a new concern, but forgot to consider that it does NOT have access to Firefox "Private Window" for banking transactions and other sensitive browsing. Moreover, 'Mandatory Clipboard Permission' fetches data from outside the Firefox, access system-wide and not limited to image-only... i.e. all text and everything, which makes it hugely vulnerable for passphrases or other sensitive data to be used inside "Private Window" anymore...
Prior Disabling and later RE-enabling extension before and after every banking transaction is not a good or practical option, neither keeping to using the older release and never updating... Some vulnerable permissions such as all system-wide 'Clipboard' access need to be enforced by Mozilla to be kept as 'Optional' and initially 'Disabled'... especially when something Firefox / Mozilla itself 'Recommends'; it's absolutely important to consider to avoid uncertain possibility of security and privacy breaches via firefox or its recommended extensions.
Again, please Developer, please don't think I'm unreasonably complaining, or undermining your fantastic effort that you give for the world, really really appreciate your works, but please please consider various scenarios and possible dangers in it. Thanks a ton, again.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Sunny, 10 hours agoIt works pretty well for searching for images on a webpage, however I kind of wish it worked a bit more like what is available on Google Chrome, where you can select an area of the webpage (kind of like screenshotting) to search on websites that have some sort of overlay on the images.

posted 6 hours agoYou can select an area of the web page using the Capture search mode. The search mode can be set independently for the context menu and the browser toolbar from the extension's options.
You could also enable the "Use deep search when selecting images" option to continue searching with the Select URL or Select Image search modes. When enabled, the extension extracts all images from the clicked area, even if an overlay image was immediately found. If multiple images are found, you can select the one you need from a popup that lists the images along with their dimensions. - Rated 5 out of 5by paulo_Brasil, 3 days agoThis tool is incredible.
Not only for the Image Search itself, but mainly for the "Open Image" function.
The Open Image feature should be an extension of its own.
No exaggeration, it's probably the one I use the most daily, of all extensions or native features on Firefox!Developer response
posted 6 hours agoHi, I'm happy you find the extension useful! You could also experiment with the options listed below to extract potentially larger versions of the image from the source code of the page. These options are not enabled by default because it takes a bit longer to download all variants of the selected image.
* Use deep search when selecting images
* Detect alternative image sizes - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19488466, 7 days ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19413721, a month agoWorked great before some websites changed something on their end. This Firefox Add-on still needs to be updated to 8.2.4 (released 5 days ago) to include these fixes. Chrome and Samsung store already had this update for their browsers.

posted a month agoNew versions are uploaded to all supported platforms at the same time, but on Firefox it usually takes more time for updates to get approved for distribution. - Rated 5 out of 5by MARSEY, a month ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by kissmyaspergerz, a month agoIt is no longer working for my android phone. I don't know what the problem is. It was always having trouble with loading every single time, as it would only load every once in a while. Now when it loads, it will search for a random gray photo with random symbols and I can't get out of it. Any suggestions? If I was able to post photos, I would.

posted a month agoMy impression is that you're using a fork of Firefox for Android that is customized to the point of breaking essential web APIs, but you'd have to share more details in a GitHub issue to figure out what went wrong on your device.
