Even though there is no further development on this extension (because of the "keep it simple" policy), it has survived over many Firefox updates and is still fairly reliable (+1). Unfortunately, when titles are included in hyperlinks (i.e.,
The known workarounds: 1) quickly move the mouse pointer away from the link and hope that the pop-up symbol is still remains on screen just long enough to hover on it or 2) move the mouse away from the link, hover over the link again and hope that the title text pop-up does not completely hide the SLP-pop-up symbol.
--------------------
UPDATE Sept. 2018: 4 -> 3 stars
The lack of settings and intermittent quirkiness (see minus-points below) for this great tool is really silly, given how simple it would be (modifying link_preview.css and link_preview.js!)
---------------------
Not having a replacement for CoolPreviews ("Preview and share links and media without leaving your current page.") prevented me from updating Firefox since version 45 or so.
This plugin, though still quite rudimentary, provides the essentials not only for viewing links on mouse-over in a popup window (which can be pinned) and still keep the source page in view, but also for working productively (e.g. for web development, for making CMS backend settings) in the popup window.
+ very quick response when mousing-over the preview popup symbol (nice!)
+ minimal essentials (independent forward/backward navigation and scrollbars, keep-open pin, option to open previewed link in new tab)
+ non-obstructive (does not cover other browser elements such as bookmarks, menus, sidebar, scrollbars)
- no popup window resizing or moving (stubbornly covers just over half of the current page) either on-the-fly or in any settings (is there a hack for this?)
- popup symbol sometimes sluggish to appear or does not appear at all on first mouse-over on a link
Looking forward to updating this GREAT, INDISPENSABLE extension to FIVE STARS in the future!

- Rated 5 out of 5by Matteo Bertini, 15 days agoVery handy to review a long list of links.
Note: the preview pops-up only moving the mouse over the little icon.
Once appeared on the side, it will update the content hoovering on a different link. - Rated 4 out of 5by pnhan, 4 months agoNot every site will work (by CSP or x-forward headers), it's works.
It's a bit minimalist, but if could add keyboard shortcuts/or click on the icon instead of just hovering it, it would be much better. - Rated 5 out of 5by Shodaime, a year agoit does work. though instead of a preview, it shows you the fully functioning whole page of the link.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13524479, 2 years agoMuch better than other similar add-ons. The side preview stays open, can be pinned. I've been using it for a while and it worked on any website.
HUGE flaw though : the panel opens on top of the webpage you're browsing. Hiding it totally. Even if you have multiple screens, no matter what : your current browsing session is hidden... behind the panel opened by Simple Link Preview.
So... in a nutshell : great extension. But unusable because it does not forces the webpage to change its aspect to adapt to the fact that the space is now shared with another webpage preview.
Too bad :/ And sadly there's no proper alternative.
Hope the dev will work on that and find a way to improve it. - Rated 5 out of 5by jrmy, 2 years agoNearly perfect for my usage.
Just annoying when accidentaly hovering link.
I made a version of this module with the need to click the icon to open preview.
I'm not a dev so don't expect more.

https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/less-simple-link-preview/ - Rated 1 out of 5by Tarantula, 2 years agoDoesnt do anything, just shows the preview windows but EMPTY. no matter if its the only extension installed.
- Rated 5 out of 5by fffanman, 2 years agoSimple Link Preview was working great, but it stopped working after I upgraded to FireFox 106.0 (64-bit)* under Windows 10 Pro 21H1. No SLP icon appears when I hover over any URL.
Any suggestions? Any known conflicts with other FF extensions?
*I don't recall my previous FF version.
Thanks!
Update 11/18/2022 -- SLP still not working with latest FF 107.0 (64-bit) under Windows 10 Pro 22H2. Removed and re-added SLP, but no icon appears when I hover over any URL. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17530236, 2 years agopreview on a key press would be great boost to this plugin.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Laugholouder, 3 years agoIt's really good, but I hope we can close the preview window instantly by clicking outside of it.
- Rated 4 out of 5by ibo, 3 years agoThis is nearly perfect.Except few missing thing: Give a choice to activate by clicking instead of hovering. Because ,you don't realize you hover on. And it opens links without wishing. I live this too much. This is boring. I changed this behavior from .js file.OK now.And I couldn't see the icon easily.Because it is blue.Generally pages with links are all blue. I made border thicker and pink in css file. I changed frame size etc. Ok. It is still as simple as possible. But problem I had to set up "xpinstall.signatures.required" choice as "false" to be able to use this modification in firefox. Better you give us these preferences. Thanks as a result.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Kent, 3 years agoPlease help so I can raise the star rating. I don't know why but sometimes it works instantly, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Anybody know? I wish instead of clicking on that icon, after a few seconds of hovering it just automatically previewed. I was really hoping it would work on the links in the history menu too. Also wish it would open in a floating window, outside of the firefox window.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 11385094, 4 years agoGreat add-on! But limited customizability is disappointing.
1. Let user change time before the icon appears.
2. Add "Hold the Alt key while clicking a link" to preview links.
3. Add option to zoom in/out of previewed page.
4. Remember zoom factor and window size for specific domains.
5. Hide previewed page instantly, when clicking outside of it. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13582018, 4 years agothis is exactly what I want, super helpful when browsing tons of link pages. The only drawback is that it seems the author stops maintaining it.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 15312840, 4 years agothis would be 5/5 if there was an option to add your own custom key modifier in addition to mouse hovering for the link to preview. for example: mouse hovers over link, nothing happens... i press and hold control and then hover over a link, a preview displays!

- Rated 4 out of 5by stvad, 4 years agoThe addon page say's it's OpenSource (under MPL2). But I can't seem to find it on GitHub or alike. I'd like to contribute some improvements to the extension, can you please let me know how I can do so/get in touch with you? Thanks!
UPD: 2020-12-28: pushed a snapshot of current code to https://github.com/Stvad/link-preview . Will explore from there. Thanks for developing this in a first place!Developer response

I would be glad if you release the Advanced Link Preview. But "Simple" will remain as simple as possible. - Rated 5 out of 5by Nehal, 4 years ago
