by Firefox user 15210357, a month agoI have a question regarding the permission requests of the Simple Tab Groups extension by Drive4ik.
As I'm sure many of you know, this extension needs to:
This add-on needs to:
Download files and read and modify the browser’s download history
Monitor extension usage and manage themes
Display notifications to you
Access recently closed tabs
Hide and show browser tabs
Access browser tabs
Store unlimited amount of client-side data
Access your data for all websites
This add-on may also ask to:
Read and modify bookmarks
Theoretically, I find this extension useful but I am concerned about the "Access your data for all websites" requirement. I read through Mozilla's permission request messages for Firefox extensions documentation and it seems like granting this extension these permissions would be a huge risk for the work I do– investigative journalism. It seems like I'll trade organizational benefits for a wider attack surface.
Can anyone speak more about the risks involved with using this extension, the trustworthiness of the developer, and why it needs the "Access your data for all websites" capability?
Thank you.

- Rated 4 out of 5by noahc3, 13 days agoVery nearly what I'm looking for... the only thing I really want is to have tab groups visible in the sidebar in an accordion style rather than groups that you need to "move into". I would like to be able to see all tabs across multiple (or all) groups in the sidebar at once - I don't mind how exactly this is implemented behind the scenes, it could still use group context switching and such when I click between tabs in different groups. But being able to open and see tabs from multiple groups at once would provide feature parity with tab grouping in other browsers (not to mention all the extra features this addon provides on top of that), especially now that we can use the sidebar effectively as a replacement for the default Firefox tab list.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 18248909, 13 days agoReally great. I got comfortable with it and had hundreds of tabs saved in different groups (I like how when you open the browser it has the tabs saved but only loads the tabs you actually go to in that session to save CPU usage and memory, and you can close Firefox and reopen it if you have too many loaded in memory). When some error caused it to lose all the tabs, I simply restored the backup because of the extension's nifty automatic backup. The only problem is there is no way to allow it access to files on my device, so if I'm viewing pdfs in a different tab group, and then go to that group, I can't see the pdfs again unless I manually copy the file path into the address bar to load them again, which gets tedious if I'm viewing several pdfs in various tabs for school. They should add the ability to grant that permission so that it will smoothly reopen pdfs just like it smoothly reopens websites. Fix that and 5 stars!
- Rated 5 out of 5by Mondag, 13 days agoI have used this add-on for years and love it! Recently (I think since Firefox update 132.0.1) all the tabs keep deleting whenever the last tab of a group is closed. I hope this gets fixed, but for now there is a temporary workaround:
In about:config you can set `browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab` to `false`. (There is a better explanation on the github-issues page, under issue #1229 but I can't paste URLs here.) - Rated 1 out of 5by Santa, 16 days agoRubbish addon. I closed the last tab in a group and it deleted *All* tabs in *All* groups. It will take me hours to reconstruct the tabs if I even can as a lot will not be in my History and it's not compatible with tab backup extensions!. DO NOT USE, would give this 0 stars if possible
- Rated 5 out of 5by Tim Armstrong, 17 days agoI can not express how useful this add-on has been to me. It is phenomenal to be able to group tabs according to what I'm working on and to swap between groups as needed. It's great for pausing a project and returning to it later.
So very, very good. I keep wanting to recommend it to friends who have 100 tabs open, but most are running chrome and it doesn't seem to have a similar add-on. Their loss!
Thank you Drive 4ik - Rated 5 out of 5by Кадочников Сергей, 18 days ago

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 17999236, 21 days agoНет...

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18705088, a month agoI found this to be the most intuitive for tab storage and management. No need to "stash" them or "bookmark" or "manage sessions". Tabs are just saved automatically in a group. You can have hundred of groups with a different name and switch between them with a click.
Assigning icon (emoji) to a group would be great. I know it's possible but not simple. First emoji in the group name should be auto assigned as the icon. - Rated 1 out of 5by nextside, a month ago警告⚠ 如果你冻结了所有分组内的标签页,且把本分组内所有剩下的标签页都关闭时,你会丢失全部标签页!
Warning⚠ If you freeze all the tabs in all groups and close all the remaining tabs in current group, you will lose all the tabs! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13198125, a month ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Rusty, a month agoNot sure at what point this started happening, but I just noticed that every tab I have open is automatically bookmarked in a folder tree (under Simple Tab Groups, with sub folders for each group I have), and closing a tab doesn't delete the bookmark. I unchecked the option "Allow access to bookmarks" and deleted the created bookmarks.
With that being said, I love the add-on and appreciate the QoL improvements it brings to my internet. Can't imagine not having it at this point. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15977491, a month ago
