I've fixed this add-on from an already made one so i've never had to deal with the chrome one and thus does not know how it behave.

About your request, I've not thinked about that but it can be great!
I think it's doable and wil not interfer much with the actual behavior.
One of my concern is the "speed": if you swap too fast between tabs, i guess the plugin may get lost.

Edit 2023 12 03: I just added a function that now unmute the selected tab, but i'm not sure it's what you were requesting. please let me know!
If not please can you explain me the exact behavior you would like to have
