Sneeze Helper

Feel a sneeze coming? Sneeze helper is at the ready.

Sneeze Helper is a simple browser extension inspired by the photic sneeze reflex, a documented phenomenon in which sudden exposure to bright light can trigger sneezing in some people.

When you feel a sneeze coming but it just won't happen, click the Sneeze Helper extension. It opens a dark screen, gives your eyes a few seconds to adjust, and then switches to a bright screen.

How it works:

1. Feel a sneeze coming.
2. Click the Sneeze Helper extension.
3. Turn up your screen brightness.
4. Watch the short countdown.
5. When the countdown finishes, the screen becomes bright.

Want to try again? Just click the extension another time to restart the countdown.

The science behind it:

Sneeze Helper is inspired by the photic sneeze reflex, sometimes called ACHOO syndrome.

In people who have this reflex, a sudden change from darkness to bright light can trigger a sneeze. The phenomenon has been discussed in scientific and medical literature, including educational material from Harvard Health.

Researchers believe it may involve an unusual interaction between the neural pathways responsible for responding to bright light and those involved in sneezing, although the exact mechanism is still being studied.

Sneeze Helper recreates that dark-to-bright transition using your computer screen.

Simple by design:

• One click to start
• Short dark-to-bright countdown
• Click again to restart
• No account required
• Lightweight and easy to use
• Built around a real, documented reflex

Note: The photic sneeze reflex does not occur in everyone, so Sneeze Helper may not trigger a sneeze for every user. Sneeze Helper is a novelty utility inspired by the phenomenon and is not a medical device or medical treatment.
