- Rated 1 out of 5by MYOB, 4 years agoWARNING...SUSPECT SCaMMER/SPAMMER ADD ON....Works maybe one is a dozen times otherwise a stupid message appears asking how you are 'working'....personally think it is either a spamming system or a scamming system and have now blocked it from our devices. Also have doubts about authenticity of claims that user data is secure.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Flume, 5 years agoStarts to block questions from TOR or open proxies, just like google. No longer useable for me and i no longer trust them. Now owned by a advertisment agency.
- Rated 1 out of 5by DailySurfer, 5 years agoWARNING! An advertising company called System1 has now huge impact on data collection of each user using Startpage because System1 has become majority shareholder. Do not use this search machine anymore!

Good alternatives are still DuckDuckgo (is subject to US-law) or with regards to European data protection regulations, the French search machine Qwant. - Rated 1 out of 5by fromCharCode, 5 years agoStartpage cannot be considered protecting your data anymore, since they are sold to system1 - a company earning money with personalized advertisement.
DO NOT USE THIS SEARCHENGINE! - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13869129, 5 years agoHabe startpage lange benutzt. Leider wurde es verkauft an ein Datensammelunternehmen! Sehr traurig. Wollen die ehemaligen Betreiber, die uns mit Datenschutz angeworben haben, mit dem Geld für den Verkauf jetzt glücklich werden oder wollen sie nur nach Kohle stinken???

- Rated 1 out of 5by dalgadoq, 5 years agoAbsolute garbage - can't use Startpage.com in browser after installing. BREAKS STARTPAGE IMHO
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15491152, 5 years agoBeen a long term user of Startpage. I did NOT expect this to happen! I have removed this add on and. of course, I do not use and will not ever use Startpage again. The previous review posted a source link, as I cant stress this enough for people who are still using Startpage or considering to do so, please reconsider!
I will sign my review by posting the source link too: https://reclaimthenet.org/startpage-buyout-ad-tech-company/ - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15247888, 5 years agoBeen bought by a click advertising company you've flushed your integrity down the drain. Go figure why I uninstalled.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15191256, 5 years agoLook how active Startpage have been replying to the comments and questions, and now its been totally quiet here.
Startpage, who promised "real privacy" have after all this years partnered with the ad-company System1 (I think anyone understand that they are anything but privacy friendly) something i did not expect to happen, not with Startpage, but i (and many others) was wrong.
Dear Startpage, you proved yourself being a scam. Users trust is hard to gain, now when letting your true shady fake face shine, you dont deserve any trust whatsoever. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15207646, 5 years ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Mattew, 5 years agoAlso a long time Startpage fan. Its really sad and a big surprise. I did not expect Startpage to take this path. RIP Startpage.

- Rated 1 out of 5by liz, 5 years agoLongtime fan of Startpage. This is truly concerning and sad. I’ve gotten emotionally so invested in Startpage, often even recommending it to people over DuckDuckGo these days and their anonymous view was also quite a great feature.
Startpage has been around for many many years, I would never have expected this to happen, to be honest. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15399253, 5 years agoStartpage - Take back your privacy by using Startpage.com. High quality search results without ads.
And sold to a ad company by the name System1 ?
Maybe you can consider changing the extension and the promising words? Its pretty misleading for being a "Private Search Engine" without trackers and ads, that now are sold to System1, one of the bigger ad crap companies out there.
A shame really. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15312985, 5 years agoThe latest update requires "access to all tabs." I don't care WHAT new functionality you were trying to add or that you're "actively pursuing other options," you should have WAITED until you found another option BEFORE you pushed an update out.

posted 5 years agoIMPORTANT UPDATE ON PERMISSION REQUEST REMOVAL
Over the last few days, Startpage has received valuable feedback regarding our recent extension update and valid concerns around our request to view browser tabs. We realize that users understandably would prefer not to allow such permissions. As privacy advocates committed to serving our community, the team made it our highest priority to address this issue.
Effective immediately our extension will no longer request access to browser tabs for existing and new users. See version update here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/startpage-privacy-search-engin/versions/
We appreciate all feedback and ask that you continue to openly communicate with us. Please feel free to reach out directly by email at support@startpage.com, by Twitter @StartpageSearch, or on product review sites. We review these daily and look forward to hearing from you.
