About this extension
Accurate prayer times. Peaceful reminders. Distraction-free prayer.

Tcalm is an offline-first Firefox extension designed to help you stay connected to your daily prayers. It calculates prayer times locally using an astronomical calculation engine based on solar declination and the equation of time. No internet connection or external API is required for normal daily operation.

  • 14 calculation methods using the same method IDs as Tcalm/Aladhan, including the Egyptian General Authority of Survey (default), Muslim World League (MWL), ISNA, Umm al-Qura, Karachi, Tehran, Moonsighting, and more.
  • Standard and Hanafi Asr calculation options.
  • Configurable high-latitude calculation rules.
  • Automatic daily recalculation to keep prayer times accurate.
  • Receive prayer notifications in English or Arabic.
  • Each notification displays the prayer's exact time in your preferred clock format.
  • Set optional advance reminders to be notified a chosen number of minutes before prayer.
  • Enable a gentle chime for an additional audio reminder.

Tcalm can pause media playing in Firefox tabs at prayer time, helping you create a quieter environment for prayer.

Its media control supports a wide range of playback technologies, including:
- Standard HTML media and custom players.
- Detached audio elements used by some web applications.
- Media inside cross-origin iframes, where browser permissions allow access.
- Open Shadow DOM roots.
- Web Audio applications by suspending their AudioContext instances and resuming them when appropriate.

Flexible pause duration:
- 0 minutes, the default: Pause media once without automatically resuming it. Playback remains paused until you choose to resume it.
- Greater than 0 minutes: Keep supported media paused for the configured duration, then resume only the media Tcalm paused itself.

Built-in testing and recovery tools:
- Test media pausing using the same code path as the actual feature.
- Identify affected tabs by page title.
- See how many tabs were scanned and receive diagnostic information when media cannot be paused.
- Resume media paused during testing or end an active pause period early.

Media control is subject to Firefox permissions, website behavior, and browser restrictions. Some playback may resist automated pausing.

Choose between two location modes:
- Manual location: Select from built-in country and city presets or enter your own coordinates.
- Automatic location: Use Firefox geolocation after explicitly granting permission.

An optional IP-based location approximation is also available. This is the only feature that contacts a third-party service.

Find your location using a built-in database covering:
- 194 countries and 593 cities worldwide.
- English and Arabic country and city names.
- Geographic coordinates and timezone information.
- City-specific timezones for countries spanning multiple timezones, including the United States, Russia, Brazil, and Indonesia.
- Suggested prayer calculation methods based on the selected country.

The location database works offline.
  • Automatically detect your timezone or select an IANA timezone manually.
  • Account for daylight saving time (DST).
  • Recalculate prayer times daily using the selected timezone.

View the Hijri date directly in the popup, with an adjustable day offset to accommodate local calendar preferences.

Choose between:
- 12-hour format: Includes AM/PM in English or ص/م in Arabic.
- 24-hour format: Uses the standard 24-hour clock.

Your preference applies consistently across prayer lists, the next-prayer card, the live clock, and notifications.

Enjoy a responsive popup designed for clarity and ease of use, featuring:
- A live countdown to the next prayer.
- Light, dark, and system themes.
- Full keyboard accessibility.
- Complete right-to-left (RTL) support for Arabic.
- A golden mosque extension icon with a transparent background and soft shadow for visibility on light and dark Firefox toolbars.

Introduced in v1.1.20 and enhanced in subsequent releases, the settings page features a modern interface inspired by Apple's iOS 18 design language.

Highlights include:
- Liquid Glass-inspired navigation surfaces.
- Grouped settings with subtle dividers.
- Native-style toggle switches and segmented controls.
- Responsive pill buttons with interactive feedback.
- Inline SVG icons and organized section navigation.
- An optimized layout for both desktop and narrow screens.

Version 1.1.20 and subsequent updates also introduced:
- A Firefox tab favicon featuring the extension logo.
- Improved Arabic-first typography with a dedicated font stack and enhanced text readability.
- Better dark-mode depth, shadows, and themed scrollbars.
- Improved helper-text contrast for accessibility.
- Performance optimizations to reduce unnecessary background work and make scrolling smoother.

The interface is fully RTL-aware, while the underlying settings logic, identifiers, and save behavior remain unchanged.

Tcalm includes a self-cleaning support log to help diagnose issues without allowing diagnostic data to accumulate indefinitely.
  • Retains internal events for a maximum of one week.
  • Limits the log to 120 entries, approximately 45 KB.
  • Automatically removes expired entries.
  • Uses the system notification channel by default on fresh installations.
  • Keeps the guaranteed on-screen alert window disabled unless explicitly enabled.

Tcalm guides new users through setup.

Step 1: Welcome
Learn what Tcalm does and understand the scope of its media-pause capabilities.

Step 2: Location
Quickly select a country and city from the built-in worldwide database. Continuing applies the suggested calculation method and the selected city's timezone, helping configure prayer times correctly from the start.

Step 3: Permissions
Review and optionally grant the permissions needed for media pausing and IP-based location. You can also skip optional permissions and keep a minimal installation.

The permission setup remains available under Settings → Media pause → Permission setup. Tcalm tracks permission changes and clearly indicates when media-pause access is unavailable. Its testing tool will not run until the required permission is granted.

Switch between English and العربية at runtime, with appropriate language-specific layouts and full Arabic RTL support.

Tcalm is built with privacy and security in mind:
- No tracking.
- No analytics.
- No remotely loaded code.
- No use of eval.
- No external API dependency for routine prayer-time calculations.
- No network connection required for normal daily operation.

Optional IP-based location approximation is the only feature that contacts a third-party service.
