It also looks like a carbon copy of "Aurora Theme" by KT2503. Aurora Theme was last updated in 2021, and Teal Galaxy was last updated in 2022.
I assume this is a fork with tweaks made for personal taste. Which is fine and all. But it would be nice to see credit paid where credit is due. I'd wager there is not much glory to be had in the theme artist world in the first place. The least we could do for these creatives when modding their work is to cite our sources!
It introduces questions. What are the modifications? Honestly, I looked at Aurora Theme alongside Aurora Theme 2.0 [also by KT who I think is the orig. author] and Teal Galaxy, and all 3 appear identical. The latter comparison (Aurora/2 vs. Teal Galaxy, diff. authors) activates my defensive reflex to assume there could be nefarious code contained in the theme. But the former case (Aurora vs. Aurora 2, same author) makes me think I don't have the eye to notice some changes.
Maybe this really is aesthetically different from Aurora Theme. Maybe subVoid is even KT2503 under a different name and this is just Aurora 3. Idk. It's just weird. Why would someone reupload the exact same theme that it appears someone else made, onto the same add-on store where the source theme is still available? Surely it must be different somehow.
Further obfuscating my speculations is the FF add-on store's limited info. It only shows an add-on's "last updated" date, but not also an "originally published" date. This limits users, introducing doubt when we want to guess about whether an add-on is trustworthy enough to install on our devices.
So I cannot tell for sure if subVoid or KT2503 first graced the store with this theme. And what's stranger yet to me is that subVoid easily is a less suspicious user (username is real words, more uploads).
I don't want to jump to conclusions. I'm passionate about security and privacy, so I'm not going to use this one anymore, or the Aurora themes for that matter. It happens that I have an aesthetic gripe that makes me favor themes lately anyway. I wouldn't say nobody else should use these themes. I don't even have the sufficient technical background to inspect and understand the code + behavior of the theme.
...Anyway. It's a good theme. Don't like the teal text - contrast too low for easy reading - but the rest is nearly perfect for my taste.
Hey, reader, if you have the know-how and feel up to it, please make a fork with white text in the address bar. (And please cite your sources when you upload it. Lol.) - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18434692, 7 months ago
