About this extension
Documentation (Englisch): "Connecting the TP-Link WLAN-Router TL-WR841N to an existing DSL-modem and configuring the setup"

IMPORTANT - if you have installed a version of this addon prior to v1.10 please remove that version before installing the addon from this site.

TL-WR841N is a low-priced (15$) WLAN-router for 2.4 GHz. You can connect it to the DSL-Router you have for getting telephony and internet, and disable the WiFi from your DSL device, only using the WiFi from the TL-WR841N, for having a very low radiation WiFi solution.

The configuration setup of the router is reachable on http://www.tplinkwifi.net, or 192.168.0.1. It only allows setting transmit power to "High", "Middle" or "Low". This corresponds to transmit powers of 100 mW, 50 mW and 20 mW. This addon allows setting the transmit power to mW-values of 100, 50, 35, 20, 15, 10, 7, 5, 3. So you can set the transmit power to even 3% of the default value.

If you also set the beacon interval to 1000 (default 100), beacons are only sent every second, instead of 10 times per second. Combining this with transmit power set to 3 you can lower the electromagnetic radiation of the router when idle down to roughly 1/300 of the default state.

Lowering transmit power does lower the range within the wifi router is reachable, and/or the maximum data rates possible when beeing too far away from the router. For a lot of applications this is enough. If needed, choose higher transmit power values.

The addon requires permissions for all data on all web sites. This is required for two reasons:

* accessing the page context of the original setup of the web router, for modifying the drop-down menu with transmit powers and reading the transmit power which was set in the router before

* checking if we are on the correct page. The default configuration page URL is http://www.tplinkwifi.net, or 192.168.0.1. The latter IP address can be changed in the configuration dialog, so we have to check all pages loaded. The check is very fast and does not consume any significant computing power.

This addon does not transmit any data from the websites checked.
