- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14558507, 3 years agoWith or without it toggled it doesn't change anything for me... maybe it only desable the cache in writing, but not in reading... Does not fit my needs anyway.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14180340, 5 years agoMy original problem was that Firefox was saving 1 GB of cache on my hard drive, and in a few hours it would be up to 4000 fragmented files composed of 20,000 fragments. This has been killing me for a few years that I couldn't figure out what was responsible.
Finally, I read about the Firefox cache. First I tried the Clear Cache add-on; clicking on it the first time, the number of fragmented files dropped from 2000 to 60. That's only with clearing the cache, without doing any defragmentation.
I guess I don't really need Clear Cache anymore, I can uninstall it. This add-on -- Toggle Cache has completely toggled Off the cache -- hard drive and RAM, Firefox works just fine without them. And just as this first-generation i7 with Win7 is getting close to being thrown into the electronic recycling bin, I figured out what was causing so much pain to the hard drive all these years. Bad Firefox.
But now it's good, again.
And what about people with SSD's with the limited number of "writes?" The default cache setup for Firefox is just awful and a big waste, speeding up the degradation of users' local storage by 1000 times.
Toggle Off your cache with this add-on, and then you don't have to memorize how to do it with about:config. - Rated 5 out of 5by batagy, 6 years agoGreat addon.
But one problem, setting changes both browser.cache.disk.enable and browser.cache.memory.enable. Would it be possible to change only the disk cache? The memory cache would be nice to not clear.
Thanks! - Rated 5 out of 5by Sandi, 6 years agoThis extension is exactly what I've been looking for to fix an issue in Firefox v56 which is always trying to load pages from cache and causing the pages to load glitchy.
I've also found that I wasn't getting so many error pages, less freezing and fewer browser crashes after adding this.It was either install this extension or update which wasn't an option as v 56 is the newest one I can use.
